Budget is under $100/night, and less of course is better.

Hotwire shows 4* Near Strip South Hotel $99. 4* South Strip Hotel $193. 5* Central Strip Hotel $197.

With these Hotwire prices, should Priceline Name Your Own Price result in less??

Have you looked up rates on the hotel web sites themselves? I learned the hard way that a carefully planned bidding sequence, inching up $1 at a time, got me the MGM Grand. The problem was that my winning bid was higher than what I could have done on MGM's web site!! Only about $5, but when you add in the Priceline fees also, it was irritating. I've always checked the web sites first since then. If nothing else, they serve as a cap to your bidding if you've done your homework.

Also, do you know there are a couple of areas for Las Vegas that can be used as free rebids since they don't have any 4*'s? You don't have much time, so that will help you get in a couple more bids in this cycle.

As AaronJB noted, Priceline tends to be less than Hotwire. The Hotwire rates can help you figure out a starting point for PL bidding - maybe 10%, or at the outside 15% less. With your schedule, probably better not to mess around with trying for the 15% less. You've basically got two rounds of bidding, one now and one 24 hours from now.

The Hotwire rates for 4* on-strip hotels for your dates were $190-something. For something under $100, you probably will have to look at 3*s on, or consider the near-strip and/or downtown ones.

We ended up staying off the strip at a Microtel (seemed to be brand new and was a very nice facility.

We did use PRICELINE, however, for 2 days at the back end of this trip in San Diego. We got the Sheraton Suites San Diego At Symphony Hall for $65/night. When we showed up the first night, we were told the hotel was sold out and we were put up at the Courtyard by Marriott a few blocks away for the first night (back to the Sheraton the second night).
