naft2717 Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel on the Strip for 11/4-11/8. Any ideas what I can expect to find?
AaronJB Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)What is your budget per night? Have you searched HOTWIRE yet? If so, were there any listings of interest? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
naft2717 Posted November 3, 2009 Author Report Posted November 3, 2009 Budget is under $100/night, and less of course is better.Hotwire shows 4* Near Strip South Hotel $99. 4* South Strip Hotel $193. 5* Central Strip Hotel $197.With these Hotwire prices, should Priceline Name Your Own Price result in less??
AaronJB Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 PRICELINE rates are almost always less than HOTWIRE.Links to the lists of Nevada PRICELINE and HOTWIRE Hotels reported to the board can be found on this page.
naft2717 Posted November 3, 2009 Author Report Posted November 3, 2009 So if I plug in 4 or 5 stars on the North or South Strip, how much would you recommend I bid, or do you think would be accepted, for these dates?
Romelle Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Have you looked up rates on the hotel web sites themselves? I learned the hard way that a carefully planned bidding sequence, inching up $1 at a time, got me the MGM Grand. The problem was that my winning bid was higher than what I could have done on MGM's web site!! Only about $5, but when you add in the Priceline fees also, it was irritating. I've always checked the web sites first since then. If nothing else, they serve as a cap to your bidding if you've done your homework. Also, do you know there are a couple of areas for Las Vegas that can be used as free rebids since they don't have any 4*'s? You don't have much time, so that will help you get in a couple more bids in this cycle. As AaronJB noted, Priceline tends to be less than Hotwire. The Hotwire rates can help you figure out a starting point for PL bidding - maybe 10%, or at the outside 15% less. With your schedule, probably better not to mess around with trying for the 15% less. You've basically got two rounds of bidding, one now and one 24 hours from now. The Hotwire rates for 4* on-strip hotels for your dates were $190-something. For something under $100, you probably will have to look at 3*s on, or consider the near-strip and/or downtown ones. Romelle
AaronJB Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 The $95 4* in the Near Strip South area on HOTWIRE would be a nice deal - I'm guessing it might be the South Point.
naft2717 Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 We ended up staying off the strip at a Microtel (seemed to be brand new and was a very nice facility. We did use PRICELINE, however, for 2 days at the back end of this trip in San Diego. We got the Sheraton Suites San Diego At Symphony Hall for $65/night. When we showed up the first night, we were told the hotel was sold out and we were put up at the Courtyard by Marriott a few blocks away for the first night (back to the Sheraton the second night).
