agosal Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 I have been trying to book a hotel thru Priceline - 4 * deluxeWe are interested in Miami Beach or South Beach and if we need to we will go to Downtown MiamiFor the Beach hotels/resorts we are willing to go up to about $100For downtown - maybe up to about $50any strategies or advice???am i dreaming with my max prices?
thereuare Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding!Your prices may be a little low for the beach areas for this time of year, but fine for Downtown. We'll be happy to supply a strategy, but just so that it's complete, are you also willing to try for Resort class properties? Do you have a preference of South Beach vs. Miami Beach?Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy. AEmgee Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Based on firsthand experience, I will go out on a limb and bet your dates are going to be tough to bid for!See my bid for January 4-8:http://www.betterbidding.com/show.php/act/.../ST/f/79/t/8187
agosal Posted December 11, 2004 Author Report Posted December 11, 2004 We don't really have a preference of South Beach vs Miami Beach - i am more interested in the hotel (quality, good location, kid friendly - 1 yr and 3yr old, etc.)I am willing to go for a resort if it is equal to a 4* Also, after reading many posts last night - i think maybe a downtown hotel may be better since we are going on a cruise on the 8th of January and it may be closer and quicker since we have 2 kids with us.but i am still interested in strategies for both and see what happens.thanks
thereuare Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 At the Resort level you have 9 re-bids available, at the 4* level you have 5 re-bids available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding it is discussed in detail here: PRICELINE BIDDING EXPLAINED. Feel free to ask any questions you have or confirm your re-bid zones if you are unsure. This is how i would proceed:Select Resort and South Beach...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $100.(i didn't use all of your re-bids here because if you're rejected on everything you may want to raise you bid before 72 hours... having the extra re-bid zones will enable you to do so, but i'm doubtful you'll be successful with only a slight increase)If rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Select 4* and South Beach...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $100.If rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Select Resort and Miami Beach...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $100.If rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously.Select 4* and Miami Beach...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $100.If rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline however you did previously. Now for a note regarding above... i think you have a shot at being successful in downtown miami at 3* or above... but not at 4* (in my opinion all the 3* hotels are fine, but you should consult the PRICELINE HOTELS list to make sure you are comfortable with them. If so, you have 2 re-bid zones at the 3* level...Select 3* DowntownBid $41, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $46, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $50.If all the above is rejected we can still work out some additional re-bids for you by combining zones already bid.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and keep us updated as to your progress. agosal Posted December 21, 2004 Author Report Posted December 21, 2004 Hi there - i have tried everything and it seems like i am going to have to pay a fortune for a 3 star in Downtown Miami from Jan. 6 - 8, 2005I have gone up to $85 for a 4 starand up to $70 for a 3 starshould i keep going higher - or do you have any other suggestions??
agosal Posted December 21, 2004 Author Report Posted December 21, 2004 I couldn't resist - i had one more re-bid left and decided to go for $80 for a 3 starrejectedplease help...is over $80 for 3 star normal for this time of year???
agosal Posted December 21, 2004 Author Report Posted December 21, 2004 Also, i found a 3 1/2 star on Hotwire for $78 in downtown Miamiamenities include restaurant, pool, golf nearby, tennis nearbyany idea which hotel it is and whether i should go for that???thanks in advance for all the help....
thereuare Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I believe the 2nd nite is the nite that is causing trouble for this... any chance you'd be willing to SPLIT YOUR PRICELINE BID?I believe that the HOTWIRE hotel you are seeing is the Sheraton Biscayne Bay. (if you book this please use the previous link to do so)If you're not willing to split the stay then the above may not be a bad choice given the difficulty, and higher prices, currently seen.Let us know what you decide to do or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
agosal Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 Actually, splitting is not really an option we are willing to take because we are going to be travelling with 2 small kids and it is too hard to move around with all the stuff - it's different if it's just 2 people...but i decided to bid on a 4 star in Coconut Grove and got the Wyndham Grand Bay for $87. I think i may have overbid but i didn't want to use up my re-bids and then have to wait yet ANOTHER 72 hours.we are very happy with this because it is booked and done and still WAY cheaper than booking it any other way.thanks for all your help - will be back to bid on more hotels in the future.
thereuare Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 Thanks for the update and congratulations on having this taken care of... one less thing to worry about.Have a great stay and lots of fun on your cruise. agosal Posted January 4, 2005 Author Report Posted January 4, 2005 I was wondering if anybody knows how much a taxi from Fort Lauderdale to downtown Miami or Coconut Grove would cost???
thereuare Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Probably about $65 to downtown Miami depending upon traffic and time of day.Try FloridaLimo.com Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AEmgee Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I think it would be much wiser to rent a car through Alamo or something - about $20/day + taxes. Much cheaper than taking a cab.
