brentnclemson Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 First time Priceline/Hotwire user, still trying to sort through the various hotels/areas in NY and the best strategy to get a good deal!My wife and I are taking our first trip to NY the week after Christmas this year. We'd like to be centrally located to some of the "Christmasy" sites - Rockefeller center, shopping....as well as not be too far from Time Square. We don't mind noise, just not toooo much.I'm looking in MTE, MTC, and Times Square right now...any suggestions for the best area considering the above? For the hotel, I'd like to find a location that's nicer than our usual hotel, Hilton Garden Inn - but not tooo small. So, what's the best way to start? I'll also do a Hotwire search and post in that forum. Thanks!

AaronJB Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 The MTE area would likely offer the most for the least; there is currently a 4* in MTE for $189 for these dates, which is the least expensive 4* showing in Midtown. With fitness, business, restaurant, internet and spa showing, this would likely be the W New York.In terms of a bid for a 4* in MTE, I'd start with $165.Just West of Times Square (near the Intrepid Air/Space Museum, which is one of my favorite NYC attractions), the new 4* Ink48 Hotel (a Kimpton property) is showing for $238.75 on Orbitz, which is 48% off. Plus, if you use the coupon code FABSAVE10, you get an extra 10% off = 58% off/about $215. This property has not yet been reported on PRICELINE or HOTWIRE, and just recently opened. The property would also offer a wine social hour. This wouldn't be considered in the Times Square zone, but it's only a few blocks walk West of it. I also would think that a bid for a 4* in TS would cost a bit more than $215 - this is certainly a great deal (plus, a new property, so everything's fresh.)Please keep all posts regarding this stay in this thread. If you go with HOTWIRE or PRICELINE, we can then move the thread to the appropriate forum. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE (Or Orbitz.com) links to start your purchase.
AaronJB Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 In terms of the MTC 4*, the City Club and Sheraton NY have been seen with this amenity set in the past. PRICELINE generally has slightly-to-moderately lower prices than HOTWIRE, although with HOTWIRE one can possibly guess as to which hotels are showing, which is not possible with PRICELINE.

MTE does sound like the best bang for the buck, I'll reply back w/ what I find. I'll also look into the Ink48, I saw a couple reviews on that hotel while searching and that sounds like a great deal. Thanks!
