ChrisDL Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 First of all, thanks to anyone can help. This board is an awesome resource without guided assistance. We're looking to stay in a 3* or higher hotel in any zone in Manhattan from Sat. Dec. 5 - Tues. Dec. 8. Ideally, I'd like to stay below $150/night (excluding taxes and fees), but I know it's peak season and I'm not sure if that's realistic or still too early to try for those kind of rates. At most I'd go for $170 right now.Any help at all is appreciated. Thank you!
AaronJB Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)Are you looking for the highest star rating for the money or are you more concerned with a reasonable price? These dates are going to be a little difficult, with the Saturday night and Monday night being considerably more expensive than the Sunday night. You could possibly get a 4* for around $150 or slightly less in Midtown for Sunday night alone, but for the three days as a whole, $150 has a relatively minor chance at getting a 3.5*.Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE link when you are ready to book.

We just want something that's clean, affordable and located in Manhattan. I'm quite certain we'd be pleased with a 3*. I'm just weary of the 2* hotels I've seen.Do you think waiting closer to the dates might lend me a greater chance of getting a good price, or is that a risky play? I'm willing to reach go up to $175 if need be, but again, if I can get a 3* for $150 or a little above then I'd be pleased.I know it's probably a pain, but if anyone could lend a bidding strategy I would really appreciate it.
AaronJB Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 I would absolutely not wait, as this is a busy time of year and if traffic holds up or increases, there's definitely a risk that prices could go higher. I think you're probably going to have to go to $150 for a 3* for these dates, and would suggest bidding in the Chelsea, MSG/Convention/, TS, MTE, MTW and ESB areas.
ChrisDL Posted November 3, 2009 Author Report Posted November 3, 2009 I'll try that. Thanks for the advice!
rhineland Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 I hope you don't mind me joining your discussion. I am still searching for a 3,5 - 4 start hotel in the time from 12/4 - 12/8. Indeed, there is a big difference in the prices bewteen Fr and Sat and Sun and Mo. Somewhere else I found a hotel for 150 $ for 12/6 - 12/8, but for the other two nights, they would charge 250 $ per night.Yesterday, my final priceline bid was: 12/4 - 12/8 MTW, MTE, CPS, TS, ESB, Chelsea 3,5* 179$ - and I was rejected! No I am thinking about splitting the bid in 2 x 2 nights...hoping that I will get a hotel for around 200 $ for the first 2 nights and around 140 $ for the last 2 nights. What do you suggest?Chris, I would be grateful if you could keep us updated, because I consider bidding for 3* too.Thank you!
rhineland Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 My 190 $ bid for 4 days (12/4-8) in Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, MSG, TS, UES ans UWE for 3,5* has just been rejected! Ow! :) That seems to be an expensive trip...
