jj_p Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Hi,My wife and I are looking for a 4* hotel in NYC for 5 nights, 12/03 - 12/08, in Central Park South area. Our budget is $140 per night. I have been unsuccessful at bidding. Please give us some advice on how to possibly win a bid. Here is our order of zone preference: Central Park South, Midtown West, Times Square, Midtown East, and Empire State area.We are willing to go down 3.5* in the same zones, if all else fails. Thanks!!
thereuare Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! So have you already bid up to $140 in all of the zones above for a 4* hotel? (and haven't tried 3.5* bidding yet?)Excluding special events, from a seasonal perspective, these are some of the most expensive nites in the city each year, and $140 may not be enough even for a 3.5*.Please confirm that you have already bid all your accetpable zones for a 4* up to your limit, and if so, are you ready to now try for a 3.5* property or are you holding out hope for a 4*?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jj_p Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 Hello,I have tried bidding up to $140 on 4* and added 3.5* until I ran out of bids (duplicate - desired zones). What do you recommend on how to tackle this again - after the 24 hour period? Is there a much more strategic method when I rebid?I was still hoping for a 4* but, as you have mentioned, those nights may be expensive, so I am willing to try 3.5* - I've seen some excellent hotels at that rating. Please advise and thanks for the quick post!
AaronJB Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 Given what I'm seeing on HOTWIRE, I'd guess that an acceptable range for a 4* is likely more in the $175-225 (and possibly moderately higher than that, depending on area) range, although $175 is more than likely going to be too lowball. As noted above, these are particularly expensive nights in NYC.3.5* is more than likely going to be $150-175 (+/-)Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 If you've already bid for a 3.5* up to $140 in all of your acceptable zones then your options come down to:-wait it out and try again-raise your maximum bid-lower your star ratingIf you let us know which option you'd favor we can suggest a strategy to follow to ensure your bids are done more strategically. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jj_p Posted October 31, 2009 Author Report Posted October 31, 2009 I am willing to raise my bid up to $170 for a 3.5*. Let me know how to proceed a strategic bid. I appreciate all the help and comments!
thereuare Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Are you willing to pay more to be in the CPS zone OR is what you're really seeking is the least expensive 3.5* or better in any of the zones you've listed above? Did you want to include MSG in your bidding or is there a reasin you're omitting this area? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jj_p Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 Hi,If you think raising my price to $170 will increase my chances to land a successful bid on a 4*, then I will be receptive to take on any suggestions/strategies. However as you have mentioned, the "least expensive" 3.5* within all the areas I have mentioned will be ideal to meet the original budget ($140) or slightly over, although I am ready to pay a little bit more for the CPS area. MSG area, I am not too familiar with, however, if you think it is smart to add this to my list of area, then I am open to your suggestions.
AaronJB Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 I think one issue with bidding 3.5* in CPS is the possibility of the Hudson, which has infamously small rooms. It's more a "scene with a hotel" than a "hotel with a scene" - it's a trendy boutique property that's definitely a "love it or hate it". While some people have gotten the Renaissance 57 lately when bidding 3.5*, the Hudson is still a definite possibility. With 3*, your only option in CPS (or at least the only property reported) is Park Central. If acceptable, I'd also add MSG in order to increase the odds of a hotel accepting.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
jj_p Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 Adding MSG is acceptable. With all that said, what is the best plan of action? I am getting ready to re-bid soon. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 I'd try $150 for a 3* in MSG/Convention.
jj_p Posted November 3, 2009 Author Report Posted November 3, 2009 Great, will try - which possible hotel(s) could I get for $150 (starting) at MSG?
AaronJB Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 http://www.betterbidding.com/show.php/showtopic/93The PRICELINE hotels that have been reported to the board are at the link above. However, as noted on that page, new/previously unreported hotels can show up at any time.
jj_p Posted November 8, 2009 Author Report Posted November 8, 2009 Finally scored on Millennium UN Plaza Hotel hotel for $220 on 12/3 - 12/8! Thought about it with my wife and we were fine with raising our budget considering that the time frame is in the higher end that time of the year. It was a great getting advice from this forum and very many thanks!!
