thereuare Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 The above is a match for the Beekman Tower so that would be my best guess. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. pcjorna Posted October 29, 2009 Author Report Posted October 29, 2009 Thanks for the answer. After checking out reviews on TripAdvisor, I am going to pass on that hotel. I was thinking of trying my hand at Priceline bidding. I am pretty open to staying anywhere in the City as it will be my first time. I would rather not spend more than $180/night and nothing under 3*. Is there a strategy you could suggest? Should I be posting this in the Priceline section?
thereuare Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I wouldn't advise that you stay "anywhere" in the city as it would be better to be more centrally located, if possible.Generally speaking most of the midtown zones should work well for your needs. Would CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, and Times Square all work well for your plans? Were there other zones that you wanted to include? Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is the least expensive 3* or better what you're seeking? Also, note that the Beekman Tower is a 3* hotel in PRICELINE's MTE zone... should you win this property thru PRICELINE would this be acceptable? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the information above and we'll take it from there. pcjorna Posted October 29, 2009 Author Report Posted October 29, 2009 The less I have to spend the happier I'll be. That said, I'd pay more for a 4*, but do not want to go over $180. Not sure how likely it is to get a 4* under $180 in New York. I'd rather not stay at the Beekman, given the reviews, but if it is unavoidable then I'll deal with it.The areas above would work. I have scheduled broadway plays, a concert at the Mercury Lounge, a tour that begins on 5th Ave, dinner res. at a couple of spots and shopping is important. Since I have not been, and do not know the best locations, I'm keeping my fingers crossed at this point that cabs are easily accessible and relatively affordable.Any assistance in strategy, locations would be wonderful.
AaronJB Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Based on the prices I'm seeing, a 4* at $180 and under is pretty unlikely, although you could try at $175 in the midtown areas and see if anything's accepted - if not, you won't be charged. Doesn't hurt to try.Personally, $138 for the Beekman - while not the most optimally located hotel - seems like an awfully good deal.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
thereuare Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 So did you want to try for a 4* up to your $180 limit, then if that is rejected try for a 3.5* up to your limit, then if that is rejected try for a 3* up to your limit?Let us know if this is correct and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. pcjorna Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 That would be ideal. Thank you.
thereuare Posted October 30, 2009 Report Posted October 30, 2009 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones, at the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* CPS, ESB, MTE, MTW and Times Square...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS, ESB, MTE, MTW and Times Square and re-bid zone5...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $180If the above is rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, Chelsea, MSG, MTE, MTW, and Times Square...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* ESB...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, Chelsea, MSG, MTE, MTW, Times Square and ESB...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, Chelsea, MSG, MTE, MTW, Times Square and ESB and re-bid zone2...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, Chelsea, MSG, MTE, MTW, Times Square and ESB and re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, Chelsea, MSG, MTE, MTW, Times Square and ESB and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180Any questionsl feel free to ask. pcjorna Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 I have read and re-read the zones and re-bid zones link. I think I am more confused than ever. When you say... Select 4* CPS, ESB, MTE, MTW and Times Square...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINEDo you mean I should Select 4* then check off CPS and bid $130 and if that is not accepted add ESB and re-bid $140, if that is not accepted add MTE at $145, etc.?OR is zone 1 Brooklyn and I am supposed to bid Brooklyn at $130, CPS at $140, etc.?I apologize, but I am not getting this re-bidding process, the language is confusing to me.Thanks so much.
AaronJB Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 As noted in the link above, re-bid areas are areas in terms of bidding for a 4* are areas that do not offer a 4*. Do use caution when re-bidding and making sure that the area does not offer a 4*.
