reppin_the_847 Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 The bang for the buck that we get here in Chicago never ceases to amaze me. We get WAYYY more than the folks trying to land a hotel in NYC for the same dollar (these deals just wouldn't be possible in Manhattan). In any case, I knew I wanted to be in the middle of the city (Chicago) for Halloween night & the related nightlife scene.I started off with a $50 bid (shooting for a 3-star hotel in NMA-River North), it got rejected, so I tried $55, and got rejected. I believe I tried $60 after that, and got rejected yet again. Instead of increasing my bid by 5 dollars, I decided to play conservative and shot for the N. Michigan Ave / River North region again using a $62 bid. This time, I won the bid, AND they upgraded me by half a star to a 3.5 star hotel, The Wit hotel (part of the Doubletree lineup) at 201 N. State Street. With fees, the out the door price for a room came out to approximately $78.86. This is technically at the very northern end of the Loop near the corner of State & Lake (near this el stop as well). The Wit is supposed to have a very hip, rooftop lounge as well. I booked two rooms when I put up the bid last Friday. I then realized I'd need an additional room, so I booked another one the following day with the exact same parameters, and ended up getting the exact same hotel as desired. This is probably my 3rd post on Better Bidding, and I've sure been pleased with some of the deals I've been finding. Priceline Name Your Own Price seems to offer an additional notch of savings beyond what Hotwire offers typically. But the Name Your Own Price feature can be a little more of a challenge to deal with. It's so worth it though.
AaronJB Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Congrats on your success. :)I've also noted the same thing to a few other posters in NYC who were going on expensive dates this Fall - if they didn't have their plans set, Chicago is quite a bit cheaper - I'm amazed at some of the deals that have been had in Chicago ($50's for New Year's Eve.) A little surprised this is considered in the River North-NMA area. Thank you for letting us know about this new property to add to the site's Priceline Hotel List.Enjoy your stay, and thank you for using the site's PRICELINE link.
