Hi,

I am new to priceline and co. Read your first aid articles but couldn't find an answer to my question.

Will be in NYC form 21 March till 28th March 2010. Is it generally a good idea to book as soon as possible oder should I wait for better deals? I wan't to do a full week of tourist-sightseeng-stuff.

Thanks for help

Welcome to the site. :)

There is no way to predict rates in the future, and while waiting until the last moment has worked on many occasions, I can't tell you how many people who I've helped who have waited and then, months later, were shocked to see that rates had suddenly went through the roof (due to an unforeseen rise in traffic in the area.) Additionally, one has to keep in mind that there are going to be realistic floors for prices for the season, and floors in price that are likely due to profit margins.

The end of March is generally not the absolute cheapest time of year, but it's certainly generally far more reasonable than the most expensive time period (in other words, now.)

You could also certainly split your stay between two hotels, which would allow you to start your day from different areas and may (although prices seem pretty decent for NYC on these dates) result in a better deal overall.

A week should definitely give you plenty of time to see most major attractions and quite a few minor ones. I'd definitely plan out in advance, as it's easy to get sidetracked in NYC.

What would be your budget per night? What areas would you be interested in staying in?

Hi,

would love to get a hotel for max 120 $ a night, incl. tax. Would like to see the empire state building, miss liberty, ground zero, central park. May be a football or baseball game. But I am not sure if there is anything on in March. I do not care about museums and theaters. Love to walk around cities. Like architecture.

I would like to stay close to alot of attractions. So I don't have to take the train for over half an hour. Would like to stay in a "save" area.

To stay in two areas sounds like a good idea. Do you have any ideas where a good and affordable are will be?

thanks for help.

$120 "all-in" is less than $100 when taking out all fees/taxes.

HOTWIRE does have a 3.5* hotel in the Chelsea-MSG zone for $103/nite with:

Smoke Free, Fitness, Business, Hi-Speed Internet

This matches previously reports for the Wyndham Garden Hotel which gets very good reviews and this would be my best guess.

Would this HOTWIRE offering work for your needs or would you prefer to bid on PRICELINE (where you may win a hotel a little cheaper, but not have a guess as to the hote you will receive or just how close the nearest subway is)
