AnandaRumi Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Needing a room for one night in the Metro-West area, I clicked on the PRICELINE link on this page and zeroed in on the Lexington-Concord sub-region, after seeing that the Colonial Inn in Concord was among the hotels available through PRICELINE. It's a beautiful old place right in the middle of a beautiful town, and I used to love visiting there for a drink or dinner when I lived in Boston. I didn't see any recent reports of winning bids, though, so I had to figure out what to offer. Rooms on the hotel's website start at $149. But from comparing its amenities to the two Concord hotels listed on HOTWIRE, I was pretty confident it was the one going for $57 a night. So I went back to Priceline and offered $48 ... and was turned town. I offered $52 ... and was turned down. Huh? It was only then that I noticed that while the Colonial (or at least the hotel I was reasonably sure was the Colonial) was listed as a 3* on Hotwire, it was just a 2* on PRICELINE. So I adjusted my bid to a 2*, dropped my price back down to $48, and got my hotel room. I may have been successful with an even lower bid once I adjusted to 2*, but since I'd already made two 3* bids I was impatient and didn't want to have to wait 24 hours if my bid of $42, $45 or $47.99 was turned down. So I just went with ...Bid: $48.00Taxes & Fees: $12.83Total Charges*: $60.83
thereuare Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Congratulations on your success!Well researched and played, and glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for. I do think it was a bit of a risk bidding for a 2* hotel in hopes of this property... while there may be 2* hotels (such as this one) that you would be happy with, there may be others at this star level which you would now, and with PRICELINE you never know which type you will get. For $10 i would have went with the stronger match and used HOTWIRE, but you're $10 richer now for taking the risk... all is well that ends well :)Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AnandaRumi Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 You may be right. Perhaps I was tempting fate by not just going with HOTWIRE. But from looking at the PRICELINE map, the "Lexington-Concord" search area did not include any other surrounding towns, so I was reasonably confident that I was going to get the hotel I targeted. I wouldn't have been so bold if the bidding area I checked off included the neighboring town of Bedford, which has a couple of hotels I wouldn't have wanted.Anyway, thanks for creating this helpful site.
