Priceline Hotel: Need 4* bidding help for Thanksgiving

I am planning a visit to NYC November 26-December 1.

I would prefer a 4* in MTE, TS, or maybe MTW. Currently the prices on most travel sites start at around $300 and go up for a 4* in these areas. I'm hoping to not have to pay more than $250 per night for those dates, but I'm wondering if that is unreasonable. I've also read in some posts that the closer you wait to the holiday, the more likely the prices are to drop. This makes me nervous since I obviously don't want to wait until the last minute and end up still having to pay some crazy amount.

Any suggestions regarding bidding now vs waiting and a bidding strategy would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site. :)

A few things:

1) Your best bet is either MTE or MTW, as you may luck out in the $165 range in either zone. $165 could be a lowball, but I don't think you would have to go to/over $200 - at least based upon the rates that I'm seeing for these dates.

2) A likely win in the TS/Theatre District area in the 4* category is likely going to be more in the neighborhood of $225-250.

3) HOTWIRE has a 4* in the MTE area for $223 w/fitness, business, restaurant, internet, tennis - which is likely the Intercontinental Barclay.

4) Waiting until closer to the time period in NYC is a definite risk - if traffic starts to come in as hotels expect or greater, rates could go up - and if rates do go up they will do so suddenly (a HOTWIRE listing that was $225 will suddenly be $275 or some other higher price, for example.)

5) Overall, I definitely don't think you will have an issue with staying within budget.
