Joeco1 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Hello,We are 4 couples heading to Chicago 11/13-11/15. Plans are to eat drink and be merry... and see the Jersey boys. We will cab to hotel no car. Which area on HOTWIRE is better suited to our agenda. Thanks!

Joeco1 Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 Thanks! Cool site! We'll be getting 4 rooms and I intended to use Hotwire. We know we'll need to cab to Jersey Boys. I'm just a little unsure if going NMA/Gold Coast could put us to far North... out of the action.
thereuare Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 You can wait for board member AaronJB to see this thread and i'm sure he'll be able to comment if the NMA-Gold Coast zone is too far north, but i'm going to guess that it isn't.However, with HOTWIRE you'll be able to take an educated guess as to the hotel you're being offered, and assuming you guess correctly, you'll then be able to determine just how well the property works for your needs. For instance, searching HOTWIRE now for 4rooms/8adults a 4* hotel appears at $109/nite with:Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business, Internet, Spa and a TA rating of 3.5.This matches previous reports for the W Chicago Lakeshore so that would be my best guess for this one.Would this work for your plans? Thoughts? The NMA-Streeterville zone will likely be an option as well. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Joeco1 Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 I actually came to the same conclusion of that being the W. the real bummer is that 2 hours ago it was $86 or $89...I don't think that would be a bad spot for us but would like to hear AaronJB's response as you've made him sound like the Mag Mile expert!
AaronJB Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Chicago is generally quite walkable/easy to get around. The Jersey Boys is playing at the LaSalle Theatre, according to what I've read. That is in the middle of the Millennium Park/Loop/Grant Park zone. The issue with the Loop area is that is turns pretty quiet later in the evening - stores close and restaurants start to close early. Staying in the Mag Mile area is definitely preferable if you are looking to have nightlife available - restaurants, bars, etc - this area generally stays active later into the evening, and a cab ride from most Mag Mile area hotels to the Loop would probably be $5-8/9 (although more if you have more people in one cab, etc.)If you still would like to stay close to the play, there is a 4* on HOTWIRE in the Loop area for these dates with the amenities fitness, business, restaurant, pool and internet for $82, which would be a very likely match for the Palmer, which is a block from the LaSalle. If you would like to stay in the Mag Mile area, I do like the W Lakeshore idea above; the W is certainly a "love it or hate it" chain - if you are looking for nightlife and a trendy boutique, that is a great price for that property. If not, then I'd suggest looking at a different property. There is also a 3.5* in the NMA-Gold Coast-WT area for $79 w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa. This would likely be the Hotel Indigo, in the Gold Coast area. That hotel is a very cute property and one of my favorites; while there's nothing particularly trendy about it, it's a very nice hotel. While the hotel isn't really much in the way of nightlife, the surrounding Gold Coast area certainly is.The Indigo is on the opposite end of the downtown area from the Loop (the Gold Coast is just a few minutes walk North from North Michigan Ave), but there is a subway station around the corner from the hotel that will take you right next to the theater - and that would be a VERY quick subway ride. The Gold Coast area is quite nice, as well. So, overall, if you want to be right by the theater, I'd suggest the Palmer. If you're looking for more nightlife, I'd suggest staying North of the river at either the potential W or the potential Indigo. I'd take a cab from the W to the play, but from the Indigo you could cab or subway it.Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links, and let us know if you have any questions.
Joeco1 Posted October 21, 2009 Author Report Posted October 21, 2009 Aaron,Thanks a ton. This was great info and I really appreciate it. I will for sure book from your PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links here when I decide and I'll let you know.Thank you thereuare as well!
AaronJB Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Happy to help. Let us know what you decide or if you have further questions.
Joeco1 Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 Hey Guys...Well, apparently I've putzed around long enough to have the price on what we think is Hotel Indigo jump up. I'm still seriously considering that even at the higher price but wondering what your thoughts are on how that price may fluctuate in the next few days. Does waiting through the weekend sometimes help?Secondly, I see a mag mile/streeterville on hotwire for $89. It's 4* with fitness, rest, biz ctr, internet and spa and has a 3.5 TA rating. Anythoughts what that might be?Thanks!
AaronJB Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 The 4* Mag Mile would likely be the Hyatt. The Hyatt is more centrally located, but I'd much rather pay the same amount for the Indigo (which, while not centrally located, is in a very nice area and is around the corner from a subway station.)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
Joeco1 Posted October 28, 2009 Author Report Posted October 28, 2009 Hey Guys!Just wanted to let you know I did get the Hotel Indigo. It was $119 on Hotwire but my group decided it was worth it based on all you feedback and advice. I did use your HOTWIRE link. Thanks Again! I'll be back!
