Sorry to hijack but didn't feel the need to start a new thread as I'm also interested in this weekend (30-1st). I'm willing to stay anywhere on the island south of Central Park, or even Jersey City. Any suggestions for the best value bidding strategy for a 2.5 or 3*? Probably spending most of my time in SoHo and East Village but don't mind taking the subway.

bond316,

Rather than randomly throw around numbers, why not find your best available rate thru traditional booking channels, both in Manhattan and in the outlying areas, then based your maximum bid for each based upon a discount to your best deal you're able to find outside of the opaque providers?

If on the otherhand your capped at a $70 budget, then start the bidding process for your acceptable zones and see if you're able to get an acceptance.

As i mentioned above...

You can/should try... but i doubt it.
... maybe you get lucky and win a hotel that happened to put in a rate that was lower than it should be for this nite.
