D-Rock
We are going to San Diego on 1/14, and will stay for two nights. Want to stay at a 4* hotel in either Downtown/Harbor Island or Coronado Area. Any idea on what I should I bid on Priceline? Link to comment
thereuare
A preliminary glance leads me to believe a 4* at a reasonable price may be a tough call, but a 3* can likely be had at much less. I would try the following first, but keep this in mind if you're rejected with the following. I didn't know what your maximum bid is, so i went up to $100/nite. If this is too high, or far off from your maximum bid before you would consider a 3*, let us know and we'll revise accordingly. You have 7 re-bids zones in this area... feel free to confirm your re-bid zones with the board if you're unsure or just want to make sure you have the correct.Select 4* Downtown/Harbor IslandBid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $100.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. D-Rock
I'm not real familiar with the San Diego area. However, after noting your comments about it may be hard to get a 4 star hotel in downtown....I looked up each of the hotels on the Downtown 4*list and all of the 4 stars are showing now availability on their individual sites. i was hoping to get a room for around $80. What do you think of the Coronado zone? The Loews is $180/night and the Marriott Coronado is $185/night. Link to comment
thereuare
I would recommend you at least try to get a 4* in your prefered zone before you start searching for the 'next best thing'. To re-adjust the suggested strategy based upon your maximum bid:Select 4* Downtown/Harbor IslandBid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $72, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone and....Bid $80.The above leaves off one re-bid zone since we're already only talking increases of $2-3, and it also gives you the ability to re-bid immediately if suddenly you begin to seen lower prices while you're still waiting for your 72 hours to expire. If you still want to try other zones before proceeding with the above let us know. TravelGuy
What do you think of the Coronado zone? Link to comment
D-Rock
I bid all the way up to $80 with the strategy you suggested. With no luck. My 72 hours will expire on Monday. What do you think I should do next? Drop to a 3* or wait and rebid after 72 hours for a 4*? Thanks. Link to comment
thereuare
That's a question only you can answer... we don't know how you feel about a 3* property and/or being a month away from a stay without a reservation. If i were in your shoes though, i would make a decision to either lower my star quality (and bid price) or, if you continue to stick with a 4* hotel, raise you bid amount somewhat. If you change your parameters (maximum bid amount or minimum star level) we'll post a new strategy accordingly. D-Rock
I am going to lower my search to a 3* level. Can you suggest a bidding strategy for a 3* in the Downtown/Harbor Island area? Thanks Link to comment
D-Rock
I won the 3* US Grant for $40/night (1/14/05 to 1/16/05) $207 on US Grant website- I was declined at $38 used free rebid raised to $39 used coronado declined and then bid $40 and won the US Grant.- I hope this place is not as bad as some of the reviews. Thanks for all your help....Thereuare Link to comment

TravelGuy
Thanks for trying $38 and $39! - first time I've seen that. It looks now like $40 is as low as they're willing to go with their Priceline rates. Link to comment
D-Rock
Thanks, I saw that you had a previous winning bid for $40. I hope it isn't too bad. I will say that when I called to request a King size bed / non-smoking room that it was done through Starwood. Link to comment
