Priceline Hotel: 4* San Diego (Downtown-Harbor Island) - DENIED

Hey everyone.

I'm trying to get a room in the Downtown/Gaslamp area checking in Friday October 30, checking out November 1.

I started with Downtown-Harbor Island at $85, added the following areas and increased the price by $5 each time I was denied:

El Cajon - Santee

Escondido - Vista

La Mesa

Miramar - Rancho Penasquitos - Poway

Mission Valley

National City - Chula Vista

North County Coastal

Finally decided to stop when I reached $120.

Should I just keep going until I get a room?

Or should I wait until Monday and try again? What are the chances extra rooms will be added or prices will be reduced between now and the 30th?

Rates are high for this weekend and i'm guessing it will take more than just "a little bit more" to be successful in this zone.

What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? What is your maximum bid? Would any other nearb zones be acceptable as well?

Normal rates seem to be in the $300-450 range on the various hotel sites. We're definitely planning to stick to these zones and are willing to pay whatever we have to pay. I'm just trying to figure out what the best possible price is.

The few things I'm seeing available on Orbitz at the 4* level are $400+. Hotwire has a 4.5* for $272 and there is a 5* for $330 on Orbitz.

However, the 3* Park Manor Suites is $126.75 on Orbitz, and FABSAVE10 coupon code takes 10% off = less than you've already bid.

I think my issue with bidding for 4* is that it would appear most of them are sold out; not sure there would be any inventory in terms of bidding.
