cruwudu Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Hello,Thanks for this great site. Long time reader, first post.I am traveling to Boston 11/13-11/15. I am staying past that for a conference and already have it booked at the Hilton Boston Back Bay (40 Dalton Street...Google Map link) in the Copley Square - Theatre District.I am going early to see Boston with my girlfriend. I have never been and would like to see the highlights, eat at some cool restaurants, check out Harvard Square, maybe get dragged to a show, etc. I am not set on staying in the Theatre District. Anywhere that has good metro access will be fine for me, but I don't want to be more than a 10-15 minute metro ride from things. Before I look at zones to start bidding on, I wanted to check with the wisdom of the board. Which zones do you guys recommend? I'd like to stay in a 3.5* or 3* (preferably 3.5* since it's somewhat of a vacation but if having a better location and a 3* is worth it, I'll go for that). For the goals of this trip do you guys recommend against one of the zones? I'd also like to keep it under $80/night if possible. I may adjust that to align with reality once the bidding begins. Thanks in advance for the help. I have already read extensively on re-bidding and am looking forward to getting this started. Fortunately I have about a month to book this.
thereuare Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Generally speaking the Copley and Quincy Market zones are the 'downtown' zones of the city and should put you relatively close to a metro station.Check out of these zones and let us know if either/both are acceptable for your needs. Rates for your dates aren't too bad, although i suspect you may need to go a little higher for a 3.5* property. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. cruwudu Posted October 16, 2009 Author Report Posted October 16, 2009 So would you recommend against staying in Cambridge? The area is huge so it looks like you could easily get stuck in the northwest quadrant and be far from things. I also don't know how common metro stops are in that region. Worst case scenario would be stuck somewhere that required a cab ride to get to a metro stop. Thanks for the advice. I'll probably start bidding today.
cruwudu Posted October 16, 2009 Author Report Posted October 16, 2009 Surprising success! I started to bid today just to get a sense of how things go (first time using Priceline to book a hotel) and was pleasantly surprised when my second bid was accepted! My (short) bidding history is below to help out others like this board helped me. I started really low thinking I wouldn't get a hit (I don't mind the 24-hr time out since it's a month out). I had no idea it would go through since it seems a lot of people had to bid much higher to get a 3.5* in the Theatre District.BID #1$60 - Copley Square - Theatre District3.5*REJECTED - no counter off suggestedBID #2$643.5*Added Quincy Market - Faneuil Hall - Financial. So now bidding that + Copley Square - Theatre District.Success! I got the Hilton Boston Back Bay. PERFECT since that's where I'm staying for the conference. It's in the Copley Square zone.I DID use the PRICELINE link from the support/travel links page to book this. Hope you're making money hand over fist with the referral credits and Google Ads here. Seriously, I hope you've retired from the day job and are helping out all the frugal-minded travelers like myself in some balmy tropical locale with a drink in one hand and a laptop in the other.
AaronJB Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Fantastic deal for this time of year in Boston!
