yankeegirl Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Hi - I've never used HOTWIRE / PRICELINE for a car rental before so any advice would be great! I've found a rate of $349/week @ Hertz.com using AAA discounts (a bit confusing because they don't break it down into $/day) with taxes a total of $456. At Hotwire I found a rate of $45/day for a total w taxes of $404 (both rates for mid size suv). Any ideas for a PRICELINE bidding strategy (I can back up w the Hertz reservation)?
thereuare Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I'd make the Hertz reservation as a back-up, then try PRICELINE at the following bid amounts over the next 4 days, trying your bid every 24 hours:$35, $38, $41, $43HOWEVER, be sure to check the HOTWIRE "all-in" price as the fees/taxes may be different than PRICELINE's... so make sure you keep your bids below the HOTWIRE 'all-in' price. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. yankeegirl Posted November 3, 2009 Author Report Posted November 3, 2009 Just to follow up - I found a mid size SUV with Budget on their website for $249 for the week if you pre paid. We got a Nissan Rogue and since we declined any extra coverage (I used my AM EX to pay so I was covered) it ended up costing $249 total for the week with pick up/ drop off @ the Airport. Pretty psyched since this was only a bit more expensive then most of the weekly rates we were finding for compact cars.
