Hi,

It's been so long that I used priceline to bid for hotels. Can you help give me some tips please? I only need one night of hotel on 10/19/2009 preferably within walking distance to disneyland. Any suggestions as to how I should start bidding, that would be great... My price range is no more than $85/night -- 3-4 star hotel.

Thank you!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

You won't be able to bid for a hotel that is specifically within walking distance of Disneyland. If you go to PRICELINE and look at the zone boundaries the hotel you receive can be anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone. Does either of the Disneyland zones work for your needs?

If you're trying to target a specific location within the zone HOTWIRE may be a better option if you're able to identify the hotel being offered, thereby having an educated guess where within the zone the hotel is located.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. If you want to move forward with PRICELINE, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for your nite?

No guarantee on walking distance with PRICELINE. I'd advise you to bid around 42-50 dollars for a 3.5 star - 85.00 is way too high for that. I just got the 3.5 star Crowne Plaza (not within walking distance) for $48 a night. Most hotels do have shuttles to Disneyland, though.

I'm not targeting any single hotel. It would be nice if I could get something that is not too far as I have a 4 yr old boy. but it's not a requirement. Can you suggest a strategy in bidding please? An example would be great... I don't want to make foolish mistakes...

For example --

1. I choose Disneyland Anaheim zone area, 3.5* and bid $40 to begin with.

2. If I don't get anything then I have to make some changes, correct? So, add Disneyland Orange Garden Grove. And bid for $45?

3. Then if I still don't get that, then change it to 4* and bit for $50?

Am I on the right track? It's been too long since I did this...

Yes, pick your zone and do your starting bid. If turned down, you can expand the area and bid again right away. Or you can wait 24 hours and you can rebid on the first zone only, increasing your bid (you have to wait 24 hours between bids, unless you change the areas or the date of travel). It looks like most of the 3.5 stars are going for 45-48 a night, from what I have seen. Hope this helps.
