momoffive Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Returning to NYC for get-away with hubby Thurs Oct 21 thru Sunday Oct 25. Would love to stay at Barclay. Grand Hyatt would be fine too. So, I follwed Lenat's lead and bid $178 tonight. Rejected. What should be my next move?
thereuare Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 You can't bid on a specific hotel, you could receive any hotel in the zone at the 4* level... are you willing to accept any hotel in this area at the 4* level or only the Barclay and Grand Hyatt? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
momoffive Posted October 15, 2009 Author Report Posted October 15, 2009 Yes, I understand that. Yes, I would be willing to stay in any 4* in the MTE area. There is just evidence that those two hotels accepted bids from Priceline for the time period I'm wanting to stay there. One guy got Barclay for $120-ish for the weekend following when we're traveling (marathon), and another got Grand Hyatt for $178.
thereuare Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Rates are date specific, it would not be surprising to see a hotel priced at $150 one nite, $400 the next, and $200 the next... so dates that are around the same time as your stay can be a rough guideline, but not something that should be expected (as evidenced by the range between the two wins you refered: $120 - $178)Rates for your dates above are high, is the MTE zone the only one you're willing to accept? Would you consider raising your bid, lowering your star rating, adding other nearby zones, and/or SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Got rejected for 3.5 stars at $230! Finally got 3.5 star Affinia in Convention area at $250. Wow! Stayed in nicer 4* (Omni Berkshire) in July for $152. Didn't realize October was so expensive.
AaronJB Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Sorry to hear the purchase was more expensive than expected, but October is quite a busy month in NYC and this is a well-reviewed property.Thank you for sharing your results with the board and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start future purchases.Enjoy your stay.
