yankeegirl Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Hi, I was hoping for some help with bidding on a 4* hotel in San francisco for these 2 nights. I have tried with no sucess over the past few days up to $105 including Financial, USW, and USE (my preferred areas) using the 5 rebid zones. Maybe there is something going on in town and rooms are scarce? Or am I unrealistic with the price? I would be willing to go up to maybe $120 a night... Any advice would be great, thanks!
thereuare Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 There is a large American Academy of Ophthalmology conference in town during your dates (24K attendees) which is driving up the cost of rooms. Based upon current rates i'm doubtful $120 will be enough for a 4*hotel in your prefered Downtown zones. We can suggest a strategy to try if you'd like, but what's your back-up plan? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Nunya Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I would be curious to hear your strategy. I tried bidding up to $135 for a 4-star in the same 3 areas (Financial, USE/W) and to $125 for a 3.5 star, with no luck. I'll be there for 4 nights from 10/24 - 10/28.Thanks

yankeegirl Posted October 15, 2009 Author Report Posted October 15, 2009 Back up plan - good question! I guess I was going to inch up my budget until I reached what some of the lower end hotels were going for that night - I could get the Best Western Fisherman's Wharf for $180 w a AAA rate - but not an ideal area for us. Any ideas?
thereuare Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 If you're currently willing to bid up to $180 for a 4* hotel in either the Financial, USE, or USW zones, i would try as follows:Using your FIVE re-bid zones at the 4* level (NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)...Select USW and Financial...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect USE...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect USE, USW, and Financial...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect USE, USW, and Financial and re-bid zone4...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect USE, USW, and Financial and re-bid zone5...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect USE, USW, and Financial and re-bid zone4 and re-bid zone5...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $185 (if you want to get this far <likely> and want to try the extra $5)Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. cookpeggy Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I have the same problem here, so I tried to book a room at B&B, or if you don't mind, there are some private rooms in Hostel, e. g. Adelaide Hostel ,they do have private restroom, but you must book the whole room.Hope that works!
yankeegirl Posted October 16, 2009 Author Report Posted October 16, 2009 Ok, so I tried your strategy (thanks for working that out) to no avail. Now I'm thinking of trying for a 3.5* in Fisherman's Wharf or Union Sq East (don't want to risk getting the 3.5* in Financial). The Hyatt & Sheraton in Fishermans Wharf have availability according to their websites, so perhaps you could suggest a strategy? Thanks again for all your help!
thereuare Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 I'm thinking of trying for a 3.5* in Fisherman's Wharf or Union Sq East (don't want to risk getting the 3.5* in Financial)To clarify, above you bid USE and USW and Financial, but above you indicate USE and Fisherman's Wharf... did you not want to bid USW at the 3.5* level? (and do want to bid Fishermans Wharf)Please confirm and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. slruud Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 Lastminutetravel.com has a 3* hotel in the Union Square/Nob Hill area for $104/nite. From what I can tell it might be the Whitcomb, and the reviews on Tripadvisor seem quite good. Good luck.
yankeegirl Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 I was looking at the priceline list of hotels won at the 3.5* level and Fisherman's Wharf and USE are the only areas with 3.5* hotels that I would be comfortable winning. Specifically I think the best shot would be w the Hyatt & Sheraton in Fisherman's Wharf since they show availability (Marriot shows no availability in either zone). What do you think?
thereuare Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 I do believe the LMT property is the Whitcomb... do you want to go with that for $104/nite (considering the savings) or try for a 3.5* in the USE and FW zones? If you still want to bid PRICELINE, did you want to bid up to $185 (given the $104/nite at the presumed Whitcomb)Let us know your thoughts. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.PS- nice find slruud :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
yankeegirl Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 I think I'd like to try for the 3.5* (thank you btw slruud - good find on the Whitcomb), but perhaps not bid up to $185 (w priceline taxes that's really $210), so maybe I'd try going up to $150.
thereuare Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 3.5* level and Fisherman's Wharf and USE At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 3.5* Fishermans Wharf...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* USE...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* F ishermans Wharf and USE...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* F ishermans Wharf and USE and re-bid zone 4...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. yankeegirl Posted November 3, 2009 Author Report Posted November 3, 2009 Sorry it took me so long to follow this up - but we ended up spending the first night (10/25) in Half Moon Bay @ the Seal Cove Inn (highly reccomend this place if anyone ever needs a place in the area) and just one night in San Fran (10/26) @ the Parc 55 for $180 (did not particularly love this place - a step down from the Hyatt/ Hilton type of hotel IMHO). We were driving up from Monterey before flying out of SFO on 10/27 so this worked fine for us. Glad we broke the nights up as the prices that weekend in San Fran were outrageous and we ended up having a fabulous time in Half Moon Bay. Thanks for all the advice - and I guess I learned that if there's an event in a city driving the prices up think outside the box!
