hcm Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Been trying for three weeks to get a good deal like last time - I was determined to pay no more than $32 or maybe $34 for a 3* near YYZ - plenty of others have gotten that deal in the last couple of months and I did too in March. Anyway, didn't do quite as well this time:Bid 3* YYZ for $32 - rejectedadded re-bid zone (Toronto East) $35 - rejected-waited a day-Bid 3* YYZ for $35 - rejectedadded re-bid zone (Toronto East) $39 - rejected with a counteroffer of $48, but I never accept counteroffers.Bid 3* YYZ for $41 - rejected with a counteroffer of $53added re-bid zone (Toronto East) $43 - Accepted Hotel Indigo. So then I went in to get rooms for the others I will be with, but they have different checkin dates, and that didn't work, by the way, so keep in mind as always that availability one day means nothing about other dates.for them, I bid $39- rejectedthen added rebid zone and bid $43 - rejected.Since the same bid was just accepted for some of these nights, I guess the Hotel Indigo must have only sold priceline rooms for certain dates and not one of the ones we were looking for - so I guess I'll just wait a few days and see what I get - I doubt that raising my bid will help - or will it? Would welcome any theories....Details of my win:Check-In Date: Friday, November 6, 2009Check-Out Date: Sunday, November 8, 2009Priceline Customer Service Number: 1-800-657-9168Hotel Name: Hotel Indigo Toronto Airport135 Carlingview DriveToronto, Ontario M9W 5E7416-637-7000Billing Date: October 14, 2009Your Offer Price: $43.00 (US dollars)Number of Rooms: 1Number of Nights: 2Subtotal: $86.00 (US dollars)Taxes and Fees: $19.44 (US dollars)Total Charges: $105.44 (US dollars)
thereuare Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Hope you're happy with the win so far for your dates. What are the dates of the others? (note: we may have you start NEW TOPICs for the other dates you need) Assuming their dates include both of your dates above, are they willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, trying to get the same deal you had for 2 of their nites, then possibly chaning hotels for the balance of their stay? (or if their stays commence earlier than yours, staying someplace else for the beginning of their stay and then chanign hotels to the Hotel Indigo)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. hcm Posted October 14, 2009 Author Report Posted October 14, 2009 Sorry, the other dates were 11/05/09 - 11/09/09.No, I don't think they want to move from one hotel to another.I think I'll try tomorrow a bit higher bid - I wish I knew how the hotel-side interface worked - I'm wondering if Indigo has said they would go as low as $43 on some of the nights but $48 on one of them, if priceline is essentially "averaging" the total stay before deciding if the bid matches the ask - if so, then perhaps if I go back at $45 and $47 I'll hit it without changing anything else. Does that reflect how priceline actually works??
thereuare Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Your weekend dates in the range above are cheaper than midweek rates, so the Thursday and Sunday nites have a higher rate than the Friday and Saturday for which you were already accepted, which explains the rejected bids at the same price. It used to be that your bid price needed to be high enough to win each nite of your stay independently of the other nites (so if rates for a given hotel were $50, $50, $100, $100... it would have required a bid of $100 to be successful if bidding all the nites togehter, even though averaging the rates would only require a bid of $75 to be successful). However, most (but not all) hotels now go by average price. The price difference between your midweek/weekend dates is $39(CAD) so i'm guessing it will take a little ore than just $5 over your previous winning bid (assuming you were to win the same hotel). Are you familiar with re-bidding? (Priceline Re-Bidding Explained)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.PS- please start a NEW TOPIC for this other stay since it is likely that you will be receiving a different price and/or hotel, and we'll be able to reflect the details of your new purchase (as well as the events which led up to it) in this newly created thread. hcm Posted October 15, 2009 Author Report Posted October 15, 2009 Yes, I'll definitely start a new thread when I win the other nights, and I'll include the history in it.Yes, I'm familiar with re-bidding.However, I'm lost on something you said, perhaps you can clarify - you said The price difference between your midweek/weekend dates is $39(CAD) so i'm guessing it will take a little ore than just $5 over your previous winning bid (assuming you were to win the same hotel).Where do you get that the price difference between my midweek/weekend dates is $39? At this point all I know is that they sold me the weekend at $43 a night. I don't think I know anything about the Thur or Sun night rates - I was just guessing they'd be higher, but had no idea how much higher. You think the difference is $39??
thereuare Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 That's the hotel direct difference between midweek and weekend dates... not the difference in the 'opaque' rate, which is unknown. To continue this discussion please start a NEW TOPIC for this stay (not once you win a hotel) since this discussion is now about your new stay... not the one reflected in the topic title of this thread. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
