ladybear Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I need a hotel in Chicago (via PRICELINE or HOTWIRE) for 10/17-10/18. Everything is booked solid for this weekend. Do you think that more rooms will become available closer to the weekend? Any suggestions on nice hotels in the suburbs if we can't find one in the city? Does anyone know what convention is in town? Thanks!
thereuare Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! There is a 30K attendee Society for Neuroscience convention in town during this nite.Regarding the suburbs, give board member AaronJB a day to reply and if he misses this thread bump it after 24 hours and we'll explore some of your options. Although it may help him if you add a reply now indicating if you have a car, are willing to drive into town (and pay for parking) or are looking for a complete mass transit solution. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jmw2323 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Thanks! We will not have a car & will use public transportation.I will be in town that weekend and ran into the same problem. Was considering staying close to midway but found a short term rental in nrth mich ave for $145/nt tax included for a studioDewitt place
AaronJB Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I think my issue with the suburbs is that while I strongly recommend them and think there are some wonderful areas outside the city to stay in, with one night, you are going to spend a lot of time going back and forth. Additionally, a bigger issue is that while the suburbs do have public transit into the city, in many cases, it's not possible to walk from the hotel to the train - you need to drive or take a cab to the train. I don't like the train ride a from ORD into the city very much, but there's literally nothing on HOTWIRE and it's not worthwhile to stay in the other burbs if you do not have a car.
shazebq Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I'm running into the same problem and it's getting really frustrating! I was also thinking of staying in the suburbs but you're right it's going take too much to get back and forth if you don't have a car (which I don't)You guys think something will open up last minute???....say on Friday? Any other advice on finding a place for this weekend?
AaronJB Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 With HOTWIRE remarkably showing absolutely nothing, I'd say that there is little likelyhood that anything (or at least anything reasonable if things do open up) will open up in the next few days.

Thanks!
AaronJB Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Staying by ORD is not optimal, but there are not too many other possibilities in this case.If you feel like going higher end, there is a 4.5* in the Airport ORD South area on HOTWIRE for $79 w/Shuttle, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf. This is a likely match for the new Intercontinental O'Hare (which even has an art gallery, I believe.) There's also a 4* in the same area (possibly the Hyatt) for $68. You could probably do better by bidding for a 4* (possibly a starting bid of around $50) in the ORD area on PRICELINE, but you could then wind up at any of the 4*'s in the area (although the Intercontinental has not yet been reported on PRICELINE, only HOTWIRE.)Let us know your thoughts. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
