Hello all. I am looking to get 3 rooms at Planet Hollywood from 2/18/10 - 2/21/10. I'm not sure what to bid, but in February of 08 a person won a room at PH for $45. I would really like to get a deal for $45-$50. I am also not sure if I should try Priceline or try Hotwire. I would appreciate any help seeing that I am very new to this method. Thank you again

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Few things to begin:

If you haven't seen it yet, start by giving this thread a read: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire.

With PRICELINE you can't target a specific property in the zone, so if you choose to go that route, you won't be able to target Planet Hollywood at all and will be subject to any 4* hotel in the zone (which although is the "strip zone" includes the Westin which is slightly off-strip) With HOTWIRE there are no guarantees of the hotel you will receive, but you can often take an educated guess as to the property you're being offered based upon the amenities shown. HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you'll need to decide which aspect (lowest prce or ability to take an educated guess before your purchase is important to you) is most important.

Lastly, i haven't look at rates for your dates yet, but your dates cover a weekend when prices are often 2x-3x midweek rates. I suspect that the $45 win you refer to for this property took place midweek and during a rather slow time in Vegas... to expect a $45 win for a 4* hotel for weekend dates is probably not realistic.

Feel free to ask any questions regarding the above and/or how you'd like to proceed... we'll take it from there.

Thank you for the helpful information. I believe that it would be best to take an educated guess. So would HOTWIRE be the way to go? The average price for the Hollywood Hip room is $199 that week. What should be my opening bid? Thank you very much!

If you re-read the I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire there is no bidding on HOTWIRE... they offer a price, show the star rating, zone, and amenities, and you cna choose to accept that price or not.

See the Hotwire Hotel List.

Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.

There are only two central strip locations listed:

4.5 star @ $154 with casino, fitness center, pool, resturants, buissness center, high speed internet, golf and tennis nearby.

3.5 star @ $79 with casino, pool, resturants, buissness center, high speed internet, spa, golf and tennis nearby.

Which properties might these be?

There is no 4 star listed so I guess PH is not avail.
