Hi, and first of all thanks to everyone for putting this great board together. Ive never bid on any of these secret hotels before (always afraid Id ruin the girlfriend's weekend by ending up somewhere rubbish) but this board's given me the confidence to consider it.

Anyway, we'll be in San Francisco from the 28th of December to January 3rd. We'd like to stay somewhere nice - 4 stars or more. Has anyone any tips for tactics to use or how to go about winning a good deal?

From reading the boards, it seems that Embarcadero might be the safest bet for 4 star options. Is that right or is there somewhere else you'd recommend.

All advice, no matter how obvious it might seem, gratefully received. Thanks!

I'll certainly make sure to use the links. I see there's a four star advertised on Hotwire for those dates for $105 so I was thinking of maybe bidding a little below that. Maybe $80-90?.

Alternatively, I could try and maybe book the Hotwire rate if it looks like a good deal. Should I open a new thread on that board to try and identify it, or would that be cluttering up the forum with duplicate requests?

I dont think splitting would really be an attractive option as we're coming from Ireland, so will probably spend the first few days jet-lagged and in no mood to move around.

You can post the details/amenities of the HOTWIRE hotel in this thread and we'll take a look... keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. If you ultimatley use HOTWIRE, we'll then just move this entire thread to that section of the board :)

Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.

Thanks. Im pretty sure the Embarcedero option is the Hilton - 4 starts, 4 out of 5 rating on tripadvisor and has a spa option. Its the one hotel out of the four I see there that we dont really want to stay in.

Im also trying to identify a 4.5* hotel in Union Square East which is priced at $146 per night.

Facilities are a fitness center, restaurant, business centre and high-speed internet access.

The tripadvisor rating for this hotel is 4.5 out of 5.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

The Inter-Continental has been using at least two different amenity combinations and i'm going to guess that this may be a third. With this property showing a TA rating of 4.5, and that being the rating of the InterContinental, this would be my best guess. At the very least, with such a high TA rating, you know it's going to be a 'good' property.
