topsy Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 I would like to stay in the Embassy Suites in Fort Lauderdale downtown in early June. When is a good time to beginning bidding with Priceline? Embassy Suites is not showing on Hotwire. Also, how much should I bid-$55?
thereuare Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please provide the actual date(s) of your stay... prices can be quite different day-to-day, even in the same month. However, realize also that you are not bidding for the Embassy Suites, but rather for a 3* hotel in the (downtown) zone. Since the ES signed contracts with a few of the cruise ships to house pre-cruise guests, this hotel has been showing up less frequent and the Marriott has been a more likely outcome.Let us know your actual dates and we'll suggest a bidding strategy to follow. topsy Posted December 11, 2004 Author Report Posted December 11, 2004 Thank-you for your help. I will need the hotel-hopefully Embassy Suites- for one night on June 3, 2005. If I don`t have a good chance for the ES, what about a four star hotel in downtown Fort Lauderdale?
thereuare Posted December 12, 2004 Report Posted December 12, 2004 It sounds as if you are opposed to the Marriott? What is your maximum bid for a 4* property? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
topsy Posted December 12, 2004 Author Report Posted December 12, 2004 No, I am not apposed to the Marriott. So, should I bid now for June 3 or wait to bid. If I need to wait, when should I bid? Thank-you for you help.
thereuare Posted December 12, 2004 Report Posted December 12, 2004 Let's back up a minute...If your plans are firm i don't see any harm in beginning to bid now... as long as you don't get frustrated and bid too much. The Renaissance is the only known reported 4* hotel, the Marriott is the most likely 3* hotel... do you want to bid for a 3* or a 4*? I believe the 4* will cost a fair amount more than the 3*.We'll supply a strategy as soon as we know if you'd rather try for the less expensive 3* or the more expensive 4*, and let us know what your upper limit is (although at this early stage i may recommend not bidding up to your limit). topsy Posted December 12, 2004 Author Report Posted December 12, 2004 My plans are firm for June 3. After getting over not being able to get ES, I researched the Marriott, and it too sounds awesome with entertainment close by. Therefore, let`s go with the three star. As far as the limit goes, I suppose $75, which is not set in stone, especially if you have other ideas. Thank-you again for sharing your knowledge.
thereuare Posted December 12, 2004 Report Posted December 12, 2004 When bidding 3* in the Downtown area you have one RE-BID ZONE available... if you're not familiar with re-bidding please read the previous link and ask any questions you may have. You should also feel free to confirm your re-bid zone with the board (as we prefer questions rather than mistakes).Given the time you have and current prices, this is how i would proceed:Select 3* Ft. Lauderdale DowntownBid $48, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $55.If rejected wait 72 hours and bid as follows:Select 3* Ft. Lauderdale DowntownBid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $60.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. topsy Posted January 31, 2005 Author Report Posted January 31, 2005 Does anybody know what hotel is listed on hotwire for DOWNTOWN FORT LAUDERDALE for JUNE 3 for $119? I didn`t know there was a 3 1/2 star hotel in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Thanks for any insight.

topsy Posted February 1, 2005 Author Report Posted February 1, 2005 The 3 1/2 star hotel in downtown fort lauderdale for $119 on June 3 has listed only a pool and restaurant . Yes, I have tried the bids suggested, without acceptance. thanks.
thereuare Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Best guess is that this HOTWIRE offering is the Riverside Hotel, but...with the MARRIOTT offering rooms for $149/nite for this date, i don't think the above is a good deal. Add on Hotwire's fee and you're looking at locking in a non-refundable hotel, 4+ months out, with only a $25 savings.I'd book yourself a back-up and continue to monitor prices and/or continue to try the above Priceline strategy. Please keep us updated as to your progress. thereuare Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Glad you waited this one out as i think this is better than your previous options.I think this property has recently lowered its Priceline rates... let's hope it continues! Was this your first bid in the zone this cycle of bidding?Have a great stay.
