mfritz Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 There are a couple large conventions going on in Vegas on these dates so hotels are pricey right now. I know the rates in Vegas change all the time. Is it better to wait and see if they come down? Or do they go up the closer you get to the date? Specifically looking for January 18-20, 2010. Would prefer a 5*, and don't mind getting the Trump. I know there will likely be resort fees on top of the bid, so would love to get something for around $80 without the resort fee.Is that expecting too much during this time? I obviously have 3 months before the trip, so have some time to wait it out if need be. Just thought I'd test it out and did a low ball of $65 for a 5* on the north strip and followed up with $68 for both north and south strip. Both rejected.
thereuare Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 As far as when to bid see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Sub-$80 is probably a bit too agreessive for these dates at the moment... i'd guess that the $120 area (i'd start lower) is a bit more realistic. Also, are you familiar with re-bidding, as you could easily bid up to your limit now (whatever you decide that number to be) using re-bid zones. See Priceline Re-Bidding Explained for more ifnformation and feel free to ask any questions you have.If you'd like help with a bidding strategy let us know your current limit and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. mfritz Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 I've been looking and I just don't see a lot of specials going on in Vegas after January 1. Doesn't look like many people have tried to Priceline after that date either. I'm wondering if I should wait a while and not be so quick to get a room. Your thoughts?
thereuare Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 You're basicaly rolling the dice (and making a bet before your get to Vegas) that rates will move in your favor... they could just as easily move the other way.You can wait if you'd like, but i do think that sub-$80 for a 5* hotel is not a high probability bet. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. mfritz Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 Given the convention that is going on at this time, which is quite large, what do you think a good bid is for 3.5*, 4* and 4.5* respectively? Since I'm only staying here one night after 3 nights there the previous week, followed by 2 nights in Scottsdale, I'm not too concerned about being choose which section of the strip I'm on as long as it's on the strip (Trump is fine).
thereuare Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Is the Westin also acceptable?Since I'm only staying here one night...Please confirm the date(s) of your stay as your topic title indicates that this is a 2 nite stay. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. mfritz Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 Not sure how to post this. But this part of the entire trip is only one night. Should I start a new thread?
mfritz Posted October 21, 2009 Author Report Posted October 21, 2009 Just bid $80 for 5* (through the BB site's PRICELINE link) in South Strip. Was rejected but there was a reply saying they found a hotel for $134 and asked if I would accept that. Looking over the hotels it seems that this 5* would likely be The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. The rack rate for this hotel for that date is cheaper at $129.Went back through the BB site and added North Strip and increased bid to $82. Was rejected again and the same reply came back sayin gthey found a hotel for $134 and would I like to accept that. I declined again thinking I may get The Hotel at Mandalay Bay, which again, has cheaper rack rates. There is a 4* hotel on the Center Strip for $104 for this date on HOTWIRE. Need help identifying this hotel. Amenities include:CasinoFitness CenterPool RestaurantBusiness CenterHigh Speed InternetGolfTennisI'm thinking it could either be Paris or Planet Hollywood. If so, this is a fairly good rate for this date from what I can tell. There is another 4* hotel on the South Strip for $105. Need help identifying this as well. I think it may be Mirage. Amenities include:ResortCasinoFitness CenterPoolRestaurantBusiness CenterGolfTennisOne final question, on HOTWIRE, would Caesar's Palace be considered a resort?
mfritz Posted October 21, 2009 Author Report Posted October 21, 2009 Oh, and sorry, the original date I was looking for was to stay 2 nights. Now I am only interested in staying one.

mfritz Posted October 22, 2009 Author Report Posted October 22, 2009 Arriving January 18, departing January 19.
mfritz Posted October 22, 2009 Author Report Posted October 22, 2009 Earlier you asked about the Westin and I just noticed that question. I don't know anything about this hotel or where it is located. Would you be able to tell me a bit about it?
thereuare Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 If you look at this link: Westin Las Vegas Map you'll see that the Westin is within PRICELINE's South Strip Zone but located slightly off the strip... to some this is acceptable, to others it is not (and they opt to use HOTWIRE instead)For the HOTWIRE offerings above, if you go back to HOTWIRE and click the CONTINUE button next to these offerings and then click the "See all amenities" link under the icons, do you see more amenities than what you've listed above? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. mfritz Posted October 26, 2009 Author Report Posted October 26, 2009 Thought I'd take a stab at this trip again, one night on January 18. Bid (through BB PRICELINE link) for 5* north strip, $85. PL replied saying they had a room for $145/night that I could accept right now. I declined.Rebid for 5* for $90 adding in Freemont Street. PL replied saying they could not accept my offer but found some speical PRICELINE rates.Went back to BB site and linked to PL. Added Nellis-LV Speedway and bid $95 for 5*. Came back again saying they had a great deal for me for $145 and I could accept right now. I declined.Added rebid zone of Las Vegas Airport and bid $97. Again, they did not accept the offer. I'll keep watching rates for hotels. I'm still over 2 months away from the trip and feel I have some time to wait. Do any of the other 5* hotels have resort fees besides Trump?
thereuare Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Some of the 4* properties have started to charge resort fees, but i don't think any other 5* properties have. Thanks for using our PRICELINE links to begin your bidding. mfritz Posted November 7, 2009 Author Report Posted November 7, 2009 Just an update to this trip. Ended up watching both Priceline and Hotwire and saw that Hotwire had a hotel (Wynn) for $126/night for January 18. Considering the fact that a few weeks ago this rate was $299 for the same hotel, I decided to book it. Other travel sites have lowered to $179/night, so $126 for this hotel seemed like a good rate. Never stayed there before but have heard the years of hype. Hope that it will be as nice as I've heard and perhaps with the City Center opening next month, they may offer an upgrade (or do the $20 trick) in January when I arrive.Any thoughts?
yellowdog Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Thank you for sharing your result with the board :) Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.Enjoy your stay. Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start future purchases.Yellowdog.
