baskinbasket Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Hi,I did not realize that the prices would be so high during Oct 14-20. Most 3 1/2 and 4 star hotels are $300-$400 and higher. I really wanted the downtown WTC/Soho area. I have stayed at Embassy Suites in the past of a priceline win months back for $125(august) before I discovered this great site and would have been happy to stay there or hilton millenium or any other for that matter in the area.I played with dates during the time time period of Oct 14-20 and bid up to $150 with Embassy 3 1/2 and hilton 4 star having rates about $300 in the downtown area with no luck. Then I tried Jersey city up to $105 with no luck with westin having rates of $244 during that time. Yes, I know i may have bid low but I can wait till the last minute to wait if you suggest.I am willing to take any area at this point but am not willing to go above $150. I may even end up staying at a Laguardia hotel(due to access to subway close by) even though I am arriving at JFK since this is truly a budget trip.Do you think I should wait till last minute and maybe the hotels will open up at lower rates and so a better time to bid or should I split my bids for other areas. i really did prefer downtown wall street area but times square would work also.Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated because at this point i am willing to stay anywhere(if budget prefer Fairfield,Residencess inn etc)as long as a subway is within walking distance. Thank you
AaronJB Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)What have you bid for so far (in terms of greater detail) - you note that you have bid for the downtown area, but have you only bid for 3.5/4*, or have you bid for lower star ratings? Are you willing to split your stay between two different properties and/or different areas? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links when you are ready to book.
baskinbasket Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Hi, I had only bid 3.5 for up to $150 in the Downtown/soho/worldtrade area and up to $105 for Jersey City 4 star and no luck. I have not bid for a lower star rating yet. I dont know if I should wait a few days before I bid again. I really wanted the downtown area since I have stayed there but also checked rates in times square which are sky high and unusually high during that time but have not bid in that zone. Yes, I am willing to split the dates at this point.
thereuare Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Nobody can say if rates will go down, or up, between now and your stay... see the related 'bid early or close to check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.I would caution about looking at the LGA zone as many hotels are not near a subway station... but unfortunately i'm not seeing anything close to your budget in any part of the city at the moment. You may be able to get something in the Hoboken/Jersey City zone for ~$150 for part of your stay, but i don't think current prices favor a win near $105.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. baskinbasket Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 I have just found a backup at a new country inn and suites in queens which is close to queensborough station so I am hoping that may work since it is walkable to a subway station and it is new. I got a rate of $112 which is a senior rate since I will have a senior with me which I think is a pretty good rate at this point. It is cancellable so I will keep looking until the dates get closer and see if hotel rates might go lower.Thank you
