sgkong Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 As a birthday present, I would like to give my boyfriend a 3 nights luxury stay in NYC in January. The dates are 3-6 Januray 2010. I would prefer a hotel in central park south and my budget for the is 150-180 (ex tax). Do you think this could happen? And how would you go about this?Best,S
thereuare Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 I think you'll have no problem with a 4* for these dates, but not necessarily in the CPS zone as at the 4* level other areas of the city are usually much cheaper. Did you want to try up to your limit first in the CPS zone only or would you be interested in a less expensive 4* in another nearby zone.Since you're looking for something 'special' you ma also want to consider HOTWIRE which may give you a little insight as to the hotel you may received. For example HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the Times Square zone for $149/nite with Boutique, Fitness, Restaurant, Intneret. No guarnatees, but this matches previous reports for the Hotel Mela, which if correct, has small rooms (much like the rest of the city) but gets very good reviews and is at the low end of your budget.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. sgkong Posted October 3, 2009 Author Report Posted October 3, 2009 Thaks for your reply. I will try the cps first and maybe try other areas as well. And thanks for the HOTWIRE tip. I might do that. But isn't the mela 'only' a 3* on priceline? The Shoreham hotel was recommended to me by a friend. What is the word on this hotel? Any good? Will keep you posted on what happens using the PRICELINE links!
thereuare Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 The Shoreham generally gets good reviews but has notoriously small rooms. However, unless yo believe this hotel is appearing on HOTWIRE, or you're willing to book direct, the discussion of this specific hotels may be a moot point since you can't "choose" your specific hotel when using PRICELINE.The Hotel Mela has been last reported as a 3* hotel via PRICELINE, but Orbitz and Travelocity both rate it 4 stars and Expedia 3.5 stars. Regardless of the star rating, it may fit the bill for your needs this stay, is within your budget, and gets good reviews. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated as to what you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. sgkong Posted October 4, 2009 Author Report Posted October 4, 2009 Just noticed that Hotwire has a 4* on Central Park Area for 129. That must me On the ave, right? What's the word on this hotel? My only concern is that is it too far from everything. Does anyone has an opinion if that is indeed the case? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
AaronJB Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Central Park (and the Upper East/West side) are a very nice area, and generally pleasant to walk through. They are nice areas for a stroll, certainly, but personally, I think they are not centrally located and it is far - especially if you're up on 77th like the On the Ave is - to most Midtown sights. In January in NYC, you do not want to be terribly far from things - it'll be more than a little cold. I'd rather pick the 4* TS boutique for $144 that is showing for these dates.Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links.
sgkong Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 I have just noticed there is a 4* hotel i MTE for 169 for my dates in January with fitness, restaurant, business center, internet and spa. That sounds like a good option for me. But I can't seem to figure out which hotel it is? the amenities sounds like the Benjamin, but the benjamin is 4,5*? Maybe someone can help med figure it out?/S
AaronJB Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Likely W New York.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
sgkong Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 Thanks for all your help. I ended up with Affinia Dumont. I really wanted that hotel as it was recommended by a friend. I ended up booking it directly at the hotel website.Best,S
