This is the first time I'm going to try and use a name your own price thing so and I think I have most of it down pat reading a lot of the free rebid threads on here. Looking to stay in the above area and I really care about ZERO amenities as I look at a hotel as a place to sleep only. So, I'm out looking for the best price possible for the area (while satisfying my gf's need to not stay in a crap hotel - hence the 4 star requirement).

So far what I've found is that my free rebid zones would be Lincoln Park, Midway, Ohare South, and Skokie. At what price should I start the bidding? I have our old back up hotel that I can book at $110 a night so I'd like to keep it less than that. Would really like under $100 but I have noticed Chicago prices seem to raise slightly in the fall.

Also, for some of the more popular places that are booked here, does anyone have parking rates? I would assume all of the hotels offer parking? I'm going to part at whatever hotel we're at as I don't want to be bothered with driving through the city trying to save $15-$20 or so for a cheaper lot 10 blocks away.

Since I'm still 3 weeks out I have plenty of time so is there any good or bad time to start bidding?

Once I book something I will update the post with the results. Thanks for helping the new guy out.

And I will of course use the BB PRICELINE link when starting my bidding.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

As far as "when to bid" see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

The zones you've included above are indeed currently re-bid zones, but there is a fifth re-bid zone which you haven't mentioned... please go to PRICELINE to take another look and confirm with the board.

Let us konw once you're ready to bid and we'll suggest a strategy for your to follow.

The Sterling Self-Park Garage

(located between Clark and LaSalle on Kinzie)

312.341.3463

$24 per day

In by 7 a.m. out by 7 p.m. - $14

In by 9 a.m. out by 7 p.m. - $18 per day

After 3 p.m. and weekends - $6

The rates are higher now than listed above (call for details, I'm not sure), but this lot generally has a good weekend deal. I've never parked there (I don't drive), but it is popular.

Hotel parking is around $40, but some hotels are $50+ now.

I went through most of the reviews for the hotels and parking ranged from $44-$50. I think the gf is paying for the parking as part of the deal to stay on Mich Ave. and go to the Jersey Boys production. She's getting off cheap. I'll take a look at this garage and see where it is in relation to some of these places. Might be worth it.

thereuare,

After I looked I noticed a 5th area after I made my post. Even more flexibility with the free rebids - can't be a bad thing. I will check out the FAQ. Thanks!

Also, suggestions on what price to start at? I went through the first 4 pages or so of posts and took down the hotel names that were booked and then averaged them out. came out to be $211 per night using The Felix, Avenue, Drake, Affinia, Westin, Sheraton, and W. Chicago LS. Low was the Felix at $159, high was the Drake at $239. Thanks for the help guys.

One note: if you're driving, there are some wonderful areas outside the city, and it's easy to take the Metra train in (which is a lot nicer than the "L".) Those would offer free parking and cheaper rates.

If you want to stay downtown though, prices aren't that bad as October in Chicago goes. There's a 4* on HOTWIRE in the NMA area w/smoke free and other icons that has not yet been ID'd, but looks like a reasonable rate, given the average rates for the area.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
