bhc2000 Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 First time posting here. 10/10/2009 seemed like a busy night, 10/11/2009 seemed better. So that makes it harder bidding for the two nights together. Tried up to $65 for a 3*, all combinations of the three areas, no luck. Went to 2* and $50 for Portland-West, no luck. Tried $50 for a 2* for South Portland-Scarborough and got the Extended Stay America. Total is $116.20 with the $16.20 tax and fees. The hotel website wants $94.99 per night. Could have started lower, wonder if overbid, since $50 is over half of $94.99. Any general guidelines? Many thanks for all your help.
thereuare Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Congratualtions on your success... nice deal and savings. Hope you're happy with the results and this property works well for your needs. There's no general discount guidelines as it region specific. In some areas bidding half of conventional rates doesn't have a chance... in other markets it could be an overbid. However, anytime i can save 50% i consider it to be a very good deal.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. planes Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 I was able to bid 55$ and win for the Marriott courtyard in Portland but only without a Saturday stay. Every other night this worked. Its a 3 star and was pretty nice for Portland. NIce big bed and 32 inch flat screen. They wanted to put me in the less desirable areas. Next to elevator and or a handicap room with the stupid hand held shower heads.I was able to get myself in a different room as I made about 4 trips for business over a three week period and started to get to know meand I flashed my Marriott silver card at them.Weird cracks in bathroom. Wonder if they had an earthquake. Also the bathroom door was off centered and the bed was missing a peg.I complained and they had it fixed the next day but had to put a phone book under the the leg the first night. I was surprised they didn'tover me a free breakfast though as I have received a free dinner and room upgrade for less at other Marriotts.
AaronJB Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Planes, welcome to the site. It would be greatly appreciated if you could post your win as a new/separate thread, with dates of travel.Thank you.
