Priceline Hotel: Help - 12/12-12/15 NY - 4* - MTE

Last night I bid multiple times (each time altering my location to include zones that didn't have 4* hotels) yet every bid was rejected.

Later I get an email from Priceline saying that for the same dates someone got a 4* MTE for $120... which is $50 under what I was bidding in my highest bid.

THEN I think Priceline dropped the hotel prices (around 11:30 pm - Midnight eastern time) and they were back up this morning.

So... Am I bidding wrong? Other people are getting the cheaper price but I'm not?

Does priceline drop there hotel prices at a certain time in the day or day of the week (and then they might go up again)?

Thanks!

I bid all the time for Manhattan and never have issues. Maybe its timing. I always get the Millenium Hilton or the Marriott downtown or the former kimberly suite in MTE. Try choosing a downtown hotel. They are all close to subway stops. hope this helps. I have never paid more than 100 bucks for a NYC hotel through priceline.

Budget is flexible, but I'd like to stay at $130 or under.

I chose MTE because it seemed convenient for my husband and I to be able to hop on a subway and travel around easily. The neighborhood/area (from what I read) is nice and safe. It also seems it would be appropriate for a young couple (we aren't looking to party or go clubbing).

So, we are not ONLY interested in MTE but its number 1 on our list.

Any suggestions/tips would be helpful.

(Thanks for the welcome Aaron. I actually used the site links before but never posted on what I ended up with... I'm going to do that now. It was an accepted bid for New Orleans...)

Nicole, thank you for posting your win. It is greatly appreciated. :)

While many people do like the bright lights of TS, personally I quite like MTE - still a lot going on and not as crowded/hectic as TS (yet, still easy to walk to TS.) While I'd generally recommend walking everywhere, transit will likely be necessary in Dec.

This is generally a pricey/busy time of year in NYC, given the crowds coming there for the holiday season. While $130 is worth a try for a 3.5* in MTE (or other Midtown zones), I'm afraid with prices in the $250-300+ zone for many 3*'s and $300-400 for many 4*'s it may not be enough. I don't think it will be enough for a 4*, but again, 3.5* may be worth a try. Are you looking to try up to $130 w/tax or $130 pre-tax?

Additionally, the 3.5* Millennium UN is a bit far East in the zone; while I'm not sure how likely a win it is for these dates, I will mention that as one semi-problematic property location wise if you were to bid 3.5* MTE. The hotel does get good reviews, otherwise.

Additionally, might I suggest Chicago instead? :) Chicago hotels are VERY reasonable on these dates. ($79 for a 4*)

Aaron, thanks for the info.

I will talk it over with my husband or maybe just try to bid in a different area.

Chicago seems nice but we already got the plane tickets for NYC :)

I'll update the board with whatever I end up with in the end. I'll 99.9% be purchasing through PRICELINE.

Thanks!
