I knew this wasn't going to be cheap as it's fairly last minute and checking HOTWIRE's rates for these dates confirmed my expectations. Sunday was a whole lot cheaper than Monday however I didn't want to take a risk and split my bid as I needed the same room both nights

Started bidding at $100 for 3.5* in Capitol Hill area and eventually added White House zone plus used two free re-bid zones. Increased my bid in $15 increments up to $145 to no avail.

Logged out and started over bidding on a 3* at a $100. Added free re-bid zone and bid $120 but price was still not accepted. I logged out and re-bid same zone at $130 (glitch in the system must have allowed this) and was given counter-offer of raising my bid by $22. Declined added free re-bid zone and put a bid of $140 in. Price accepted.
