I have tried to bid a few times for a 4* hotel in Miami beach for a pre-cruise stay in November. Saturday and Sunday nights (11/14 and 11/15). I have not ever used Priceline before, but i am hoping basically to get a good deal. i was bidding in the Miami beach area b/c we want to be away from South Beach craziness but not too too far away from the port. We want a nice place on the beach with a pool for 2 days prior to our cruise. I have bid $75, $100, and now $105. Should i keep increasing the bid?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

First, you can't guarantee a hotel on the beach and/or with a pool when using PRICELINE... you must be able to accept any hotel in the zone that you select at the minimum star rating (or higher) that you select. If there are specific amenities that you want for this stay then HOTWIRE may be a better option since they will show you before your purchase if the hotel is on the beach and/or if they have a pool.

What is your maximum bid for this stay?

Are you familiar with, and using, your re-bid zones? (see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained for more info, and if new to re-bidding, you're strongly encouraged to confirm your re-bid zones with the board before implementing)

Max bid is not more than $150 per night.

I have not been using re-bid zones as I have not been in a huge hurry to get it booked and have just been waiting the 24 hrs between bids. I guess that we are not limited to the Miami beach zone if in a 4* property in another zone (Southbeach Collins Ave Oceanfront, South Beach Ocean Drive, etc) we wouldn't feel like we were in the middle of a night club...

Re-bid zones shouldn't only be used if you're in a hurry... they can also help you get a better price. Take the following scenario where you only bid once a day:

Day1: Bid $100 rejected

Day2: Bid $110 rejected

Day3: Bid $120 rejected

Day4: Bid $130 rejected

Day5: Bid $140 rejected

Day6: Bid $150 rejected

Day7: Bid $160 rejected

** now PRICELINE gets inventory at $120 but your next bid would be:

Day8: Bid $170 accepted but a $50 overbid

Whereas if you're using re-bid zones it gives you a chance to go thru a complete bidding cycle from low to high, taking advantage of any lower priced inventory which may have become avaiable since your previous bidding attempt.

Do you want to use re-bid zones or would you prefer not to?

Did you want to first try up to $150 in only the Miami Beach zone... or are you looking for the least expensive 4* or better in any of the zones you've listed as acceptable?

Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

...(Southbeach Collins Ave Oceanfront, South Beach Ocean Drive, etc)...

Sorry, just noticed the 'etc'... are the above two (South Beach Oceanfront and South Beach Ocean Drive) the only two additional zones you're willing to add to your Miami Beach bidding or are there others as well?

Let us know exactly which zone(s) you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy to follow.

Awesome, I got Ren. Eden Roc for $140 a night.

Being a newbie at this, Do you all recommend confirming with the hotel directly?

Do I need to do anything to alter my post title above for this site?

Congratulations on your success (and your first PRICELINE win!)

You can call the hotel if you'd like to confirm, although i wouldn't expect any problems. When you call you can try making any requests you have... one/two beds, non-smoking (although all rooms at this property may be non-smoking), etc.
