spin Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 There are 3 adults travelling to New York on Oct 22-26th for 4 nights . I am looking at $150-$180 price range for 4 star hotel in Time Square. We have to be within walking distance for a conference. Any tips to bidding and how do I guarantee a room for 3 people. Thank you in advance
AaronJB Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed. While 1 bed is a risk when using PRICELINE anywhere, it is a high risk in NYC, given that many properties have small rooms. If you need a guarantee of bedding (2 beds or 1+sofa, although more likely 2 beds) for all three, I would recommend using HOTWIRE.If you would like to take the risk w/PRICELINE, let us know and we can make suggestions. Otherwise, if you would like assistance with a HOTWIRE listing, let us know the details of the listing that you are seeing (area, star rating, amenity icons showing.)Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
spin Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 Thank you for your quick responds , yes I would like to bid with PRICELINE. I have already tried in the last 2 days to select only Time Square and the last bid was for $140.00 I am not familiar with HOTWIRE, does it work the same way and if so if the PRICELINE does not work than I can try HOTWIRE. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks
thereuare Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 You can read about the similarities, and differences, between PRICELINE and HOTWIRE here: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire Before.I'll re-iterate that we DON"T recommend using PRICELINE for more than double occupancy in NYC, but it's your stay so you're more than welcome to take the risk if you're willing to accept it.After reading my comments above, are you still only interested in the Times Square zone?If so, at the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Times Square...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Times Square and re-bid zone5...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $180Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. spin Posted September 30, 2009 Author Report Posted September 30, 2009 Thank you for your response, I would also consider 31/2 * at Midtown East, looking at the Roosevelt and Wyndhem which were recent wins. Any tips? :)

spin Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 Sorry for the confusing I only bid for TS at 4* up to $160 with no success without using your zone area . I am willing to go down to a 3 1/2 star and wonder if I should use the same bidding strategy provided. I will try this weekend. ThanksZone Areas are TS and MTE maximum price $180.00 at a 4* or 3 1/2 * Star hotel.Tahnks
thereuare Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 If you only bid up to $160 for a 4* hotel in Times Square... why not try bidding up to $180 before trying up to $180 for a 3.5* property? Also, if you're interested in the MTE zone too, why not try that zone at the 4* level first? Is there a particular reason you're not interested in the MTW or CPS zones too, as these are often viewed just as convenient as the TS and MTE zones. If you decide to bid the MTE zone at the 3.5* level, are you ok with the Millenium UN, which gets pretty good reviews, but is a bit less convenient than other properties in the zone given it's "somewhat east" location (~15 minute walk to the subway)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. spin Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 Thank you , I need to be within walking distance to TS as there is a conference that I will be attending.
thereuare Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Where exactly is the conference? Will you be attending from morning 'til evening or will you need to leave/return multiple times throughout the day?If for example a a Times Square hotel is $50 more than the equivalent hotel in a nearby zone, would it be worth $200 more over the course of the stay vs. taking a short subway ride $2.25/pp or a $10 cab ride ($3-5/pp divided 2-3 ways) to the conference? NYC is so compat, that many locations in the non-Times Square zones may be walkable to the conference as well, and if not, shouldn't be more than a $10 cab ride (often less) away. With the above noted, it's your stay and you know your needs best, so let us know your thoughts and we'll advise in regards to howeer you'd like to play it.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. spin Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 You are of course right, only one of us is attending the course and basically will have to venture out 6 times in totally back and forthduring the time were are staying . The other 2 will be shopping. So I could look elsewhere, however I am not familar with the other zone areas, would welcome any suggestions. :)

spin Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 Here it goes , the conference is at the following locations, basically 1. The Hudson Theatre, 145 West 44th Street - day one2. Times Square, The Showroom, 4th Floor - day two3. 505 Fifth Avenue at 42nd Street - day threeThanks
thereuare Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Assuming your ok with subway travel (taxi is fine too, just a little more expensive) i think you'd be fine with a 4* in any of the midtown zones: MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB. For the most part you could get a subway ride from just about any of the known 4* hotels in these zones which would have you within a block or two of your location in about 5 minutes or less.If you find all these zones are acceptable (if not you can ommit any zones you find are unacceptable), you could bid as follows:Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB and re-bid zone4...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB and re-bid zone5...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $180Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
