sea54change Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 I'm attending a 4 day conference at Fashion Institute, 9/30 to 10/4. I would like to stay at either the Four Points Shearaton or Affinia Mnahatten. Priceline areas are CA & MSG. Recent winning bids are:Four Points = $160Affinia = $120 & $140 My max price is $160.Is it better to search for 2 nights at a time? Perhaps stay in 1 hotel for 2 nights and then another hotel for 2 more nights? Please suggest a strategy for bidding- I'm totally new to this process. Thank you for any and all advice!!!!
AaronJB Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)What would your approximate budget (w/tax) be for hotel per night? With a budget in mind, we could then make suggestions on how to proceed. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
sea54change Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 Aaron- Thank you for answering. :-)My maximum budget is $160.I believe the Affinia is a 4* and the Four Points Sheraton is 3.5*I've read lots of the posts here- not many people are looking for hotels in the Chelsea area, so I'd really appreciate help with a strategy.
thereuare Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 On PRICELINE, the Affinia Manhattan is 3.5* rated but the Four Points is currently 3* rated.Note that you can't bid on a specific hotel, as you're subject to any hotel iln the zone at the minimum star rating that you select.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. sea54change Posted September 29, 2009 Author Report Posted September 29, 2009 Hi-Thank you for the clarification on the star rating. I know I'm bidding on areas. Priceline seems to only have 2-3 hotels in CA.1st choice is CA. Chelsea area. 2 nd choice is MSG 3rd choice is TS.Budget price tops- $175Stay 9-30 to 10-4.
sea54change Posted September 29, 2009 Author Report Posted September 29, 2009 I don't know how I did it, I have a room for 4 nights at Affinia Shelburne for $160 / night for 4 nights. Regular price is $264/ night.I used the PRICELINE link at the top of the page. The hotel is not in Chelsea area. It is 1.2 miles from the conference location. I guess the walk will be good for me after sitting all day for 8 hours. :)
sea54change Posted September 29, 2009 Author Report Posted September 29, 2009 I don't know how I did it, I have a room for 4 nights at Affinia Shelburne for $160 / night for 4 nights. Regular price is $264/ night.Dates of stay: 9-28 to 10-4I used the PRICELINE link at the top of the page. The hotel is not in Chelsea area, where I wanted to stay. It is 1.2 miles from the conference location. I guess the walk will be good for me after sitting all day for 8 hours. I just read other wins and wish I had bid lower. For the past 3 nights the low bids were all rejected. I guess becasue it's so close to my check in date- the hotels are looking to fill rooms.
thereuare Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Congratulations on your success! While not in the zone you were expecting (perhaps you incorrectly added this area as a re-bid zone?) hope you're happy with the results and this works well for your plans. Is your conference at FIT at 27th St and Seventh Ave? If so, it's not a bad walk at all, and if the weather is bad maybe you're looking at a $5-$6 cab ride.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. sea54change Posted October 14, 2009 Author Report Posted October 14, 2009 2 weeks ago I won Affinia Shelburne thru Priceline for 4 nights. The room they gave me was small and right next to the elevator. I caled the front desk, told them I was having problems sleeping. They aplogized, said there were no available rooms that night since I had checked in so late (11:00 pm). However, I was told to leave my bags packed and they would move me to a new room in the morning.I returned at the end of the day and was pleasantly surprised. I had a new room, same floor, and it was HUGE! Both rooms looked out onto the interior courtyard, which is not pretty. However I didn't care. I was only there to sleep! The hotel also provided a ride to the airport in their SUV on Sunday at the same fare as a cab.I found the front desk staff EXTREMELY helpful, the rooms were very clean, modern and the monster king size bed was heaven.
thereuare Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Thanks for the follow-up.This may be a good example of how many complain of the 'priceline room' when in reality it may just be bad luck of the draw, and if you nicely ask for a room change, hotels will often try to accomodate you.
