Hello,

This is my first time to this site. I was referred by a friend. I am looking to stay at or near the Intercontinental Barclay in NYC from the 17th to the 19th of October. I would like to stay for $200 or less and at the best possible hotel. Any advice on how to get the best hotel for the best price it appreciated and if it is possible to do what I would like in my price range. Thanks so much for your help!

Welcome to the site. :)

There is no way to guarantee getting a particular hotel on HOTWIRE or PRICELINE, although one can make an educated guess as to which hotel may be showing on HOTWIRE, based upon the information given. There is no way to do that on PRICELINE, where you bid for a hotel at a star rating within a defined zone. The area where the Barclay is in is defined as Midtown East on both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE, and both services do have a map that shows what they consider to be in that area. Would you be willing to accept a hotel within those boundaries, or do you need one within a couple of blocks of the Barclay?

Additionally, is your budget $200 w/tax or including tax? Are you most interested in a 4*, or would you be okay with a 3*/3.5?

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links when you are ready to book.

The budget would ideally be $200 with tax but $200 without tax is fine too. I would also be okay with a 3.5 star or maybe a 3.0 I just want a clean hotel with a bathroom in the room. I love the ritz but I don't need it for a stay like this. I would like to be within a few blocks of the Barclay since that is where I will be spending most of my time at a convention. Thanks for all the help!

This doesn't really doesn't let us know what you want to try for first... 4*, 3.5*, 3*? Whatever star level you choose, how high would you like to bid for this star level before trying a higher/lower rated hotel? The InterContinental Barclay is located in the MTE zone... did want to restrict your bidding to just this zone or are the TS, CPS, MTW zones close enough as well?

Let us know the above and we'll be in a better position to suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I would like to try for the best hotel you think i can get with the best price. So ideally a 4* for $200 but if you don't think that is possible tell me where is the best place to start for the best price to start. I would like to stay within the MTE zone or wherever you think the next closes to the Barclay would be in walking distance. Since this is m first time trying to use this I am looking for your advice on what you think is best. Thanks so much!!!

How many days is the conference? Will you basically go each morning and stay for the day and then return to your hotel at nite... or will you have a need to go back-and-forth between your hotel and the conference multiple times a day?

How far are you comfortable walking? Are you comfortable taking the subway?

While you don't want to be "too far out", NYC is also an area that is so compact, and mass transit so readily available, that as long as your in the right general area,, exact location doesn't matter so much, imo. Where i'm getting at, is if you could take a 5 mintue subway ride round trip each day from a non-MTE hotel to the Barcaly, for a cost of $4.50/RT, that would offer considerable savings vs. spending more to stay in MTE only (if a hotel in a nearby zone is available for less)

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed.
