Any thoughts on whether this stay might be better on Priceline? If so can someone suggest a bid strategy?
thereuare Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, but HOTWIRE gives you the abilty to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive. If you want to try to undercut the $155 price above, which PRICELINE zone(s) are you willing to accept and what is your maximum bid?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. stasik Posted September 22, 2009 Author Report Posted September 22, 2009 I am really looking at El Centro at this point. Salamanca Chamartin has its charms, but I am looking to be in the Center for once. My max bid would be about $125 per night. Beyond that and I might as well go with what HOTWIRE has on offer.
thereuare Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 PRICELINE doesn't have an "El Centro" zone... please let us know the zone you would like to bid, by PRICELINE name. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 I looked at this a little further, and for the HOTWIRE hotel above i'm thinking that it may be the Hotel Melia Princesa. In checking to see PRICELINE's star rating for this property, it to was last reported as a 5*, but in the Around La Castellana... so can you confirm that the zone you're looking to bid is the "Old Madrid-Bourbon Madrid"?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. stasik Posted September 23, 2009 Author Report Posted September 23, 2009 I was having trouble squaring the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE zones. My goal is to be in the center of town. So I am looking to avoid what Hotwire defines as the Chamberi-Chamartin zone. I think the only way to get that would be to stick with Old Madrid/Bourbon Madrid.Truthfully, I am making location a priority over quality so 4* would be acceptable and even 3.5* if the price match the quality.
thereuare Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 What exactly is it that you want from this stay? If location, are you able to accept a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of PRICELINE's Old Madrid/Bourbon Madrid zone? This thread started with a 5* hotel via HOTWIRE and PRICELINE was an option to merely try and undercut the HOTWIRE price... but now you're considering 3.5* properties? What star rating are you seeking and what is your maximum bid? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. stasik Posted September 23, 2009 Author Report Posted September 23, 2009 I asked because I saw a decent rate on a 5* hotel in the center of town and wanted to know what it was. I casually asked if anyone thought that I could do better on PRICELINE. What you have told me is that the 5* HOTWIRE has offered in El Centro for $155 is a hotel that might not be quite as centrally located as I would like. Given the choice between rating and location, I prefer location. If I can get it, I would certainly like a 5* in Old Madrid-Bourbon Madrid. As I said before my max bid was about $125. I have absolutely no idea what I can get for $125. it may be only a 4*, it may be a 3.5*. But I certainly would like to get the best hotel room I can get in that area for what I am willing to pay.
thereuare Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 At the 5* level in Madrid you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* Old Madrid-Bourbon Madrid...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110.If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and try:Select 5* Old Madrid-Bourbon Madrid...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Godo luck and let us know how it goes. stasik Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Struck out all the way to $125. I am going to have to try for a 4* in Old Madrid or accept the 3.5* for $132 on HOTWIRE.

stasik Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 Well, I did another quick search to price out 4* hotels and found the Tryp Cibeles for $118. The reviews seem good and its pretty much right where I want to be. Oddly Travelocity was the only site with this price, everyone else had this hotel at over $200. So I chose the certainty. Thanks for your help. I did book through the link on your support page.
