serveist Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 Looking for a 3.5* or 4* hotel in NY areas for November 4-9. I was wondering what the difference in value of these two ratings are and what I should expect to bid on each rating. We would prefer 4* but would definitely like to hear more about new yorks 3.5* hotels as opposed to 4*. The areas we would like to stay is MTW, MSG, MTE, CPS, ESB, TS, CHELSEA. We were hoping to spend around 125-150 but not sure what the range is for each zone. BEST value is most important whether its 3.5* or 4*. Thanks for your time, this site is awesome!
thereuare Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! It's difficult to answer your question because while many of the 4* hotels are worthy of their higher rating vs. their 3.5* counter-parts, there are some specific properties which may be at the 'lower rung' of the 4* level, and may actually be less prefered vs. a 3.5* at a 'higher run' of the 3.5* level. Unfortunately there is no industry-wide standard as far as what constitutes a 3*, 3.5*, 4*, etc. As well, ratings are subjective, so while PRICELINE does have a fixed set of criteria to rate each property, a lot of the rating is subjective, which is why for the same hotel you can ofte find a user that 'loved it' and another user who 'would never go back'... sometimes makes you wonder if they even stayed at the same property. With the above noted, based upon current rates, i dont' think you're budget is enough for a 4* and only may be enough for a 3.5*. You can cerntaily try for a 4* first up to your limit if you desire to do so, but i'd be surprised if you were successful with a $150 maximum bid. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.
