3660 Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 any suggestions on how and where to start searching / bidding for 3* and Plus hotels in south lake tahoe CAsorry , realized its in the wrong forum. Can it be moved to CA other cities please?
thereuare Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 Tahoe is actually part of the Nevada hotel groupings so we've moeved it here. There is a South Lake Tahoe CA and a South Lake Tahoe NV... is only the California zone acceptable to you?By "3* and Plus hotels" did you mean 3.5* rated or 'anything rated 3* and higher'?What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. 3660 Posted September 20, 2009 Author Report Posted September 20, 2009 thank you.I meant anything rated 3* or higher.Highest bid I can think of is b/w $50-75.Unless you have any other suggestions.Yes,I will be looking at SOuth Lake Tahoe and more towards CA side rather than beyond the stateline.
thereuare Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 The highest rated hotel on the California side is 3*. When bidding 3* you have ONE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. (Incline Village is NOT one of them!!)(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)We don't have too much history in this area, but with time on your side i'd try as follows:Select 3* South Lake Tahoe CABid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $50If the above is rejected i'd repeat in 24 hours:Select 3* South Lake Tahoe CABid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60From there note that there is a 3.5* Condo property offered on HOTWIRE for $69/nite and gets a good Tripadvisor rating (4.0/5.0). This property may not be offered thru PRICELINE if it is a 'true' condo as PRICELINE does typically deal with Condo properties thru the 'name your own price' service, as as as it's possibly outside of PRICELINE's CA zone since HOTWIRE's zone extended slightly over the CA/NV border.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. tahoebob Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 I would not worry about being on the California VS. the Nevada side. All the hotels on the PRICELINE list in NV are within one mile of stateline. The condos that are listed really could be in any part of town in Ca or Nv. The weekend you are looking at is very slow at the southshore.
3660 Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 A friend's advice: if you are not too much into casinos/gambling then goto NORTH LAKE TAHOE.We are essentially looking for a quite getaway at the lake and then would be heading to SF for the weekend.so is north side better than south side if you want to spend some relaxing and quality timeI found out that the available hotels are quite expensive on North side no matter CA or NV, hotwire has 3 star in N lake tahoe area , any guess what it could be?I checked the hotel list in this forum and it says a Condo
tahoebob Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 This time of year both South Shore and north shore are very quiet. There are more non casino rooms that are nice on the south side of the Lake. The only 3* on north shore that is listed on BB hotel list is Northstar. nice area very quiet this time of the year but it is about 15 miles from the lake. One thing to remember if you come to the south shore is that the past 3 years have not been nice to tahoe, from the huge fire that burnt down over 250 houses 3 years ago to the slumping econony. you will see many vacant store fronts all over town, while The north shore is much smaller in population and much more like the old Tahoe. If I did not live at the South Shore and was coming to tahoe for a Vacation I would go to the North shore. One last thing the nights this time can be very cold, and the days can be very warm. But the weather is very unpredictable. I have seen snow this time of the year, but today was warm enough to go swimming at the beach.
3660 Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 thanks Tahoebob for the great advice.I did look for accommodation at North side which is pretty expensive when compared to south side plus at priceline you can get it anywhere from the north lake i.e. upto 10-15 miles.v r thinking of staying at south side & have narrowed down the options to Inn by the lake and forest suite resorts , both have somewhat same rates.Inn by the lake is right by the lake (atleast thats what the facility and tripadvisor reviews say) with heated pool, complimentary bikes, free internet access etc where as forest suites (with relatively larger/better rooms minus the amenities)is a few miles from the lake.Any suggestions which one could be more convenient ?thanx again.
tahoebob Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Inn By the lake would get my vote. It is about 2 miles from the casinos where forest suites are right next to the casinos. I drive by Inn by the lake everyday to go to work. The outside is kept up very well. right across the street from a beach
3660 Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 Inn By the lake would get my vote. It is about 2 miles from the casinos where forest suites are right next to the casinos. I drive by Inn by the lake everyday to go to work. The outside is kept up very well. right across the street from a beachthanx again. Our choice would have been inn by the lake too.Need one more advice since you live around. How is the weather at south lake tahoe nowadays. We were not very excited to see that over the weekend(thats when we are getting there) and through tuesday its going to be in 50's during day and will drop down to 20's at nights. With this below freezing weather at nights and chilly during the day I doubt there will be any water activities plus is it scenic enough there with these below freezing temps. We were thinking of our back up plan which is to take a 2 day drive by the pacific bay which probably would be warmer with sightseeing opportunities. What do you suggest?
3660 Posted October 3, 2009 Author Report Posted October 3, 2009 I had palnned to goto lake tahoe but had to change it because of weather (thanks to tahoebob for help with everything, may be next summer will visit lake tahoe)will spend time driving by pacific bay highway!!!!
