steve f Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 My wife and I have been to Charleston several times and have stayed at the Mills House a couple of times. It is a very fine upscale hotel. The hotel is located in the middle of the Historic District, step out onto Meeting Street and you're only minutes away from world class restaurants, the Market Street shops and all those fine old homes. You won't need your car at all unless you plan on driving out of the downtown area.Everything inside the hotel was clean and fresh and the staff was helpful and friendly. There's a concierge desk with a lot of information, and many of the tour buses stop in front of the hotel. We stayed in an Executive Level room, and it was nice, but only what I'd call average in size. The furnishings inside the room were good quality and we had no issues. The room was pretty quiet, inspite of looking out onto Meeting Street, and we had no problem sleeping. However, you are downtown, so don't expect perfect solitude. We parked behind the hotel in a city owned parking deck. There is a walkway connecting the parking deck to the hotel, so it's very convenient. Parking is $20/day, and you can go in and out as many times as you like. We were always able to find a space, although it can be a bit crowded during the workday since the city workers use the deck. The deck seemed like a secure facility and we didn't worry about going back and forth to the car, the few times we used the car. The deck entrance is located down an alley on the right side of the hotel. If you want to skip the valet parking, the easiest thing to do is to park in the deck when you first arrive and take the walkway into the hotel to register. If you're looking for an upscale hotel located in the very heart of downtown Charleston the Mills House is a great choice.
