rosiebg Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Hi I'm new to Priceline, but planning a trip to New York 25-29 November, and would be grateful for assistance bidding. This will be our first time in NYC so will be doing the typical tourist things, with plenty of shopping thrown in. I believe Midtown will be the best area for us, but am open to any other suggestions. Our budget will be around $160 per night.Thank You in advance.

rosiebg Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 Thanks for your quick response. We would love a 4* although suspect I am being optimistic with our budget, so if unsuccessful would consider lowering this.Having reassessed the exchange rate I'd like to keep a limit of $180 per night, and would also add central park south to our preferred areas (not sure that will help though!).Thanks again.
thereuare Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 As there is no "midtown" zone per se, can you confirm the zones you're willing to accept by PRICELINE name?MTE, TMW, TS, CPS... did you also want to include ESB?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. rosiebg Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 Was looking at Midtown East, Midtown West or Central Park South preferrably. Thanks

rosiebg Posted September 19, 2009 Author Report Posted September 19, 2009 I had deliberately not included Time Square on the basis of advise on this forum describing it as a good place to visit but not stay in. If you feel I would be wiser to include it I would be happy to do so, as this being our first visit I am not overly familiar with the different areas and am relying on advice from forums such as this. Thanks
thereuare Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 It's not so much that it's a bad place to stay, but moreso not worthy of the "i want to stay in Times Square" comments we so often here on the board. It does have the plus that it's centrally located, but it's also very crowded, so while i wouldn't target the Times Square zone specifically, i wouldn't necessarily avoid it as a place to stay either. At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and TS (if you choose to include it)...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and (TS) and re-bid zone4Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and (TS) and re-bid zone5Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $180Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.Midtown East, Midtown West Central Park South Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
rosiebg Posted September 21, 2009 Author Report Posted September 21, 2009 Thanks for the tips. I followed the above strategy including Time Square in my selection, and actually ended going over budget and bidding up to
thereuare Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Whether you lower your star rating or wait it out depends upon what you're looking for from this stay... how do you feel about staying at a 4* vs. a 3.5*? Do you view the hotel as a place to come back during the day and rest, freshen up, etc. or is it basically just a place to sleep at nite and you're out and about most of the day? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
