Hi,

I am new to all this. We are going to new york for a week from Nov 1st to the 8th and are going to try priceline to book a hotel.

Budget is around 170 a night. At a minimum I would like to get a 3* hotel near tymes square - is this possible.

All help would be great

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Is Times Square the only zone you're willing to accept or are other midtown zones acceptable as well? (see our own thoughts regarding Hotels Near Times Square.

Also, while your buget may be 'ok' for a 3*, it might be possible to squeek by with a 3.5* (or higher??) for this stay... did you first want to try for a higher rated hotel up to your limit OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay?

Lastly, in case you're not aware, your arrival date of 11/1 is the NYC Marathon, so expect some road closures and traffic depending upon what time you get into town.

Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know the above regarding zones and star rating and we'll advise accordingly.

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select 4* TS, MTE, MTW, and CPS...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* TS, MTE, MTW, and CPS and re-bid zone5 ...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...

Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...

Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone4...

Bid $170

Any questions feel free to ask. If the above fails we'll revise to 3.5*.

Hi

I have tried the above.

3.5* up to 170 and have had no luck.

Any advise on what I should do now, do I need to drop to a 3* or try bid again later for 3.5* or 4*

Thanks

Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the MTE zone for $184/nite for 11/2-11/8. Perhaps for this date range you may be able to be successful in PRICELINE for a little less... then find altnernate accomodations for the first nite of your stay.

Thoughts?

Hi,

I would prefer not to split my bid, maybe at a later stage.

I would not mind bidding for a 3*.

Is it usually hard to get a hotel when staying for a week?

Thanks

We can suggest a strategy at the 3* level if you'd like, but to put things in perspective...

The NYC Marathon is November 1st. Those who are running in it and from out of town aren't typically going to get on a plane that evening after running 26.2 miles to fly home, opting instread to relax and fly home the following day or two later. As a result, hotels are likely more expensive for the first nite of your stay (11/1) vs. the remaining nites, which is why SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID may be beneficial for this stay.

If you opt to bid for a 3* hotel, are you willing to add any additional zones (Chelsea, MSG, ESB, etc) or did you only want to stick with TS, MTE, MTW, CPS.

Hi,

I followed your advise and split my bid.

No luck with the 4* but got the Roosevelt from the 2nd to the 8th for 150 per night

I then got the Hilton Times square for 175 for the first night..

Thanks for your help and I look forward to using this site to book hotels in the future

Congratualtions on your success!

Glad to see this worked out well for you and better than 'overpaying' for all nites when it's just your first nite that is priced higher than the rest.

Please stick with the board format of only one win per thread... we'll use this thread to reflect your first nite purchase of the Hilton Times Square, plese start a NEW TOPIC for the remaining nites at the Roosevelt.
