surrealillusion Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 What's been the going rate for the 4* in the strip area south? Going down for a wedding and some friends will be staying at Planet Hollywood but I missed the package deal they have. Anyone bid recently?

surrealillusion Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 Looking for something along the lines of the $85/night USD deal that was going on for Planet Hollywood (unforunately the travelzoo promo code did not work for the dates I provided).

surrealillusion Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 Sorry, updated the other thread with full stay info.Cheers
thereuare Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Under $100 for dates that include weekend nites is not a high probability. You coudl stay at Planety Hollywood with the others for ~$130/nite if you're interested in that (although admittedly over your $85 target budget, but not sure how realistic that is for your complete stay)Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Is the wedding at Planey Hollywood? If so, and youre willing to split, which dates are the wedding and would it be best to try to target the Planet Hollywood in order to be with the others in the group? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. surrealillusion Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 Yes I was looking at potentially staying at two hotels if that would lower the overall cost down. The Wednesday arrival puts me in a room for $150 after taxes at PH. The Tuesday rate at $79USD would have been nice throughout the stay but it didn't work. My other option is to find something else along the strip and taxi it when going out to dinner and partying. What's the average cab fare from one end of the strip to the other? Would I be better off catching a shuttle, and if so what would be the average cost?
thereuare Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 What do you consider the 'end' of each of the strip? (is the South end Madalay Bay/Luxor OR is it MGM Grand/NYNY.... what is the other 'end' the Wynn or the Stratosphere?) Taxi's REALLY depend upon the amount of traffic on the strip and can vary greatly from one time of day to another. There is a bus that runs along the strip that, last i checked, was $2.25/ow that goes all the way from the strip to Downtown/Fremont St, but it can be slow (although there is a limited stop one too that is quicker)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. surrealillusion Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 As far south as MGM Grand/NYNY and as far North as the Wynn would be as far out as I would want to go. Anything beyond that seems like at least a 20 min cab ride into the main strip.
thereuare Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Does that mean that Luxor, Mandalay Bay, etc are unacceptable? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. surrealillusion Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 Those appear to be in the same block so those would be acceptable. Would it be suggested to take an Expedia booking in the meantime that allows you to cancel before a certain date as a backup while continuing to shop for hotel deals? I'm searching right now and I have an Expedia offer of roughly $135/night with Bally for a total of $700 CDN with taxes (not including the daily resort fees if any). I've never "temp booked" a hotel as a backup and don't want to get stuck eating some big fee because of it but I've seen other people on here do it.
thereuare Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 If the Expedia rate is fully refundable then you could certainly go ahead and use that as a refundable back-up (please use our Expedia link if you go that route), but if this is a 'real' option, why not just book the Planet Hollywood for ~$130/nite and be with the rest of the group? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. surrealillusion Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 Hmm I don't see a $130/night rate with PH currently. The lowest was $900 CDN after conversion and taxes roughly for PH. Yeah as far as i can tell from the Expedia page, Expedia does not charge a fee and the hotel's stipulations are you get charged 1 night canceling within 48 hrs of arrival, and then the full amount canceling the day of.
thereuare Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Click this link to go to HOTWIRE and search for your dates. You should see a 4* hotel for ~$135/nite (your price may differ slightly) in the Center Strip zone with the following amenities: Casino, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa and if you click the CONTINUE button and look to the right of the map on the ensuing page, see a tripadvisor rating of 3.5/5.0.This matches previous reports for the Planet Hollywood so that would be our best guess for this property. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Does this work for your needs? surrealillusion Posted September 20, 2009 Author Report Posted September 20, 2009 I found the booking you were referring two. Seems that the 21 and 22nd are $79 nights, while the 23 and 24th are much more expensive. Is there any hope of bidding on anything in the North at a 4* level (Mirage and Treasure Island) for under $100 a night? Gathering from the amount of postings I haven't seen any wins. So far the closest option I have of trying to stay within a $100/night budget is the first two nights at PH and then try to win Trump on the north end for under $100/night (plus resort fees). It's ridiculous that fares to fly and stay when travelling alone are almost the same as a trip for 2.

So far the closest option I have of trying to stay within a $100/night budget is the first two nights at PH and then try to win Trump on the north end for under $100/night (plus resort fees). At the moment i don't think under $100/nite for this complete stay is likely... which dates would you be trying to win the Trump for? If it's 10/23-10/25, with HOTWIRE showing what is believed to be the Trump at $166/nite, under $100 doesn't seem likely for these dates. It's ridiculous that fares to fly and stay when travelling alone are almost the same as a trip for 2.Your airfare should be half the price of two... but your hotel accomodations would likely be the same as the 'standard' room rate is usually for single or double occupancy. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. surrealillusion Posted September 20, 2009 Author Report Posted September 20, 2009 No I was just comparing the dates, obviously the friday and saturday nights will be hiked up as the busy part of the week like any hotel and then rates go back down on the Sunday.I saw a list of wins for Trump and they were around the $110 mark for the weekend. Hmm that must mean the airfare must be heavily discounted with the room rate staying the same.
thereuare Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 I saw a list of wins for Trump and they were around the $110 mark for the weekend. Was it for the same weekend as your own stay above? So your dates are still 10/21-10/26? surrealillusion Posted September 21, 2009 Author Report Posted September 21, 2009 Yes I saw it on the list of wins for October using priceline and yes my travel dates are still 10/21/09 - 10/26/09

surrealillusion Posted September 22, 2009 Author Report Posted September 22, 2009 After weighing the pros and cons of making multiple bookings and trying different hotels, adding in the required cab fare for the transfers quickly added up. I did a bid of $90 USD tonight on priceline for the Strip North knowing full well I would get Trump (this was my best option in terms of "quality" stay as I'm not big on the casino, just the parties). They countered and said I could re-bid if I added another $22 which I declined. I did another bid of $100 and selected both the North and South strips and got Trump @ $100/night for 10/21/09 through 10/26/09.After taxes and resort fees I'm looking at roughly $650 for my stay which is still better than the best rate I found for Planet Hollywood at booking.com which was $668 before taxes or roughly $750. Unfortunately this means I'll be cabbing most nights but I estimate that at 3-4 am traffic should not be AS bad as during the day so it may be a $10-$15 cab ride back. Thanks for the help!
