Starry9281 Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I saw on Hotwire today that there is a 3* hotel in Midtown Central for 9/27. The amenities are breakfast, business and wireless Internet. I was thinking that it was the Holiday Inn Express on Fifth but the rate that Hotwire is quoting is $119 and the Holiday Inn website says that hotel is almost $500 a night for that date! That's a big difference!! So I guess my question is: could this be another hotel? Is it common for the rack rate and hotwire's rate to be so drastically different? Also, are there normally deals to be had the day before you want to check in or is there a cut off before which it's better to book?
AaronJB Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 This would match the amenities previously reported with the HI Express; while it could be something else unreported, it would match what has been previously reported with the HIE. While that much of a price difference is rare, it is not impossible/unheard of.I'm seeing a $225 rate on the hotel website for this date. It's also a match w/the tripadvisor rating on the detail page of this HOTWIRE listing. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
Starry9281 Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 Thanks for the info and I will use the link if I decide to purchase. I was trying to do all of this from my phone so I may have been mistaken as to the rack rate.I'm going to be in CT and won't really know until the day before (or even day of) if I'll be able to go into the city. Is it possible to book something same day or within 24 hours of check in and if so, will there still be good deals available? I'm thinking that if you can book it same day, it's obviously a gamble because there might be nothing available, but if there is, the rates might be better?
AaronJB Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 It could very well go either way; if traffic rises as it gets closer to your dates (rates for Fall have seemed high and I haven't noticed much relief on that lately - at least as far as NYC is concerned), then you'll be faced with higher prices on the day prior to your trip. If it goes the other way, you'll have a wider array of deals to choose from. No way to know, but you do take a risk booking NYC a day in advance. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links when you do book, and please do ask if you have any further questions.
