sand500 Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Hi Everyone.I'm new here (and to Priceline & Hotwire)and am reading through everything carefully, but wow a lot of info.We want to stay at a resort in FLL and had reservations at the Hyatt Pier 66 for a week. Starting this Friday 9/18 We like the room on the garden level that opens to the pool since our nieces and their children will be visiting us there for a pool day.We already have reservations with senior rate...but it is high. up to $125 on one of the days. Plus expensive parking. My question is: -What is the best way to get this hotel or a similar "resort hotel." It does not need to be right on the beach.-Is there a strategy for getting an upgrade once we get there (if we use Priceline or Hotwire) ...let's say a $20-$40-$50 tip or more? or is that not done.Anywhere in the FLL (not north) is ok. But we prefer this hotel as we have stayed in their Garden rooms several times in the past. Unless some of you have great insights (which I'm sure you do...compared to me. )thanks for your help and I'll keep on readingSandy
thereuare Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Few points when using PRICELINE or HOTWIRE...We like the room on the garden level that opens to the pool...You won't be able to choose the room that you get. Rooms are usually assigned at check-in based upon what's available at the time of check-in. As well, your reservation is for a 'standard room'... if the pool level rooms are considered an upgrade and/or cost more than the others, it is unlikely that you will be assigned such a room. You can make a request after you receive the name of the hotel, but it is just a request and the hotel may not be able, or willing, to accomodate your request. You an try paying for an upgrade, or trying to tip the front desk clerk (see this Tipping at Hotels thread about 4-5 posts down the thread), but no assurance you'll be able to get your preference.I'd start by searching HOTWIRE and seeing if there is anything in your desired zones, star rating and budget... we'll then take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
