CRUISNDIVA Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Trying to guarantee I get a smoking room downtown for this coming weekend, looking for 4 stars or better, any advice???
thereuare Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 You can't guarnatee a smoking room, best you can do is try to ID the HOTWIRE hotel offered, make sure it's not a Smoke Free property, and make a request with the hotel once you learn the name of the hotel. Is anything currently offered on HOTWIRE that is within your prefered zone and budget? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. CRUISNDIVA Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 HOTWIRE is currently showing:$89.00 for September 19th4 Star Downtown Toronto WestAmenities:Fitness CenterPoolRestaurantsBusiness CenterHigh Speed Internet3.5 out of 5 rating on TripadvisorIf this hotel is either the Hilton or the Hyatt, I'm good since both have smoking rooms, just wondering if it could be anything else?
thereuare Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 It could always be something else, but the Hilton, Hyatt, Sheraton Centre, Renaissance, and InterContinental on Front have all been reported in this zone with this amenity combination so most of these would be possibiltiies as well. The TA ratings can't really be trusted too much anymore as there is no indication of when they were last updated (they're not realtime, just a snapshot at one point in time, updated about once a month or so), so even though HOTWIRE shows a 3.5*, it could still be one of the above showing a 4.0 TA rating if the user review rating has changed since the last HOTWIRE update. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. CRUISNDIVA Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 Not sure what to do since the Sheraton Centre is a non-smoking hotel & if I end up with that one I'm screwed. Would I be better off trying my luck on PRICELINE?
thereuare Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 The Renaissance may be non-smoking as well.PRICELINE would be worse as then you wouldn't even be able to take an educated guess as to the property... you'd be subject to any hotel in the zone. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. tilepusher Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 The TripAdvisor information is not consistent with the Sheraton or the InterContinental. The Renaissance is non-smoking (as are all Marriott properties), but I don't know if it has been reported without the Smoke Free icon since the icon was introduced by HOTWIRE. I think this hotel is very likely either the Hilton or the Hyatt Regency.
CRUISNDIVA Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 I'm very tempted considering the price to just try my luck & hope I get a smoking property.....I'll let you know how I made out.
thereuare Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 The TripAdvisor information is not consistent with the Sheraton or the InterContinental...I agree with the assessment that the Hilton and Hyatt are more likely, but i've been relying on the TA information less lately since it's unknown when it was last updated... if HOTWIRE is showing a 3.5 rating the current rating could easily be 3.0 or 4.0 if recent reviews (or the dropping off of old reviews) has effected the rating since the last update. If this was a matter of preference i'd be more inclined to "give it a shot"... but this sounds more of a need then a casual want.Ultimately it comes down to whether the savings are worth the risk. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. CRUISNDIVA Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 Downtown Toronto (East) 4*September 18th-20th$94.00/nightAmenities:SuiteFitness CenterRestaurantsBusiness CenterHigh Speed Internet AccessTA Rating 4 out of 5Any ideas as to what hotel this might be?
thereuare Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. From the Hotwire Hotel List this is a match for the Suites at 1 King West so that would be my best guess for this one. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. CRUISNDIVA Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 Sorry about that. Thanks for the info! 1 King West is a non-smoking hotel, so my search continues....I've now decided to stay 2 nights downtown (18th & 19th), still in search of a hotel that allows smoking, when I request both dates I'm getting this offer:Downtown Toronto (West) 4*-$89.00/nightAmenities:Fitness CenterPoolRestaurantsBusiness CenterHigh Speed Internet AccessPoints of Interest: Kensington MarketNo TA ratingWould this be the Hilton or the Hyatt Regency by chance?????
thereuare Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 You're now back to where you started with post #3 of this thead, excpet you now have less information to make a guess given there is no TA info. tilepusher Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 In terms of identifying the hotel, I think you're much worse off now. Aside from not having a TA rating, the very presence of the rating is, in my experience, an indication that HOTWIRE is showing the full list of amenities for the hotel. In this case, I was confident that the hotel listed before was not a hotel that had been previously reported with the Smoke Free amenity. Without the TA info showing, all bets are off; this could now be one of the non-smoking hotels that HOTWIRE is showing without the Smoke Free icon.
CRUISNDIVA Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 Crap!! I knew I should of went for it yesterday.
CRUISNDIVA Posted February 5, 2010 Author Report Posted February 5, 2010 Thanks for the help, I decided not to take the gamble & booked a smoking hotel direct.
