jim_0068 Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 HelloI am looking for a 4* hotel in the downtown area from 10/9 through 10/13. I used this wonderful site to get some ideas of pricing and techniques (including re-bidding) but have been unsuccessful.1st bid = $75 4* downtown area2nd bid = $80 4* downtown area3rd bid = $85 4* downtown areaAll 3 bids were rejected, where do i go from here? Can i continue to re-bid as long as i choose another zone or should i wait the 72 hour waiting period? I don't really want to pay more than $85 a night. I checked direct rates from renaissance mayfair and they want $199 a night for the days i'm staying and i haven't checked others.thanks for any help
thereuare Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! When bidding 4* in Washington DC you have FIVE re-bid zones (it appears you have only used TWO of them), but if you've reached your maximum bid there wouldn't be any point in using them if you're not willing to increase your bid higher. Also, the lock-out period is not 24 hours... not 72 hours.Your maximum bid is well under half price of the retail price of the hotel you quoted above, so $85 may not be realistic for a 4* hotel in this zone (although you should really check the retail prices of other 4* hotels in this zone to see if other properties are less than the $199 of the Renaissance)Are you able to accept any nearby zones, such as Dupont Circle or Convention Center? What is your gameplan if you continue to be rejected at $85 or less... lower your star rating, raise your bid, book thru another source? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jim_0068 Posted September 21, 2009 Author Report Posted September 21, 2009 Well tried again in the Georgetown area (myself and the people i'm going with have decided in this area) and we are trying for 3.5-4* hotels and i bid through 85 using 3 re-bidding zones that had less than 3.5* so i could guarantee a Georgetown hotel but nothing was accepted.I'm going to try again and increase my bid through $100 tops but i think this is a bit high for the area and 3.5* but if they aren't accepting my bids they aren't accepting my bids *shrug*. Maybe i'll try HOTWIRE too.
thereuare Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 If Georgetown fails up to $100 i do think there are other nearby zones for which you'll be successful at $100 or less.Let us know how the next round of bidding goes and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. trentslori Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 Remember that so much of DC is accessible by Metro, and by walking, so you can get some great deals if you are interested in considering other zones. I'm spending a lot of time in DC these days, so if I can offer any assistance, I would be glad to.
