Priceline Hotel: 4* NYC (Downtown-Soho-Financial) Millenium Hilton

Hi - I would like to book a hotel room for 24/9-27/9 in New York. I wouldn't mind either downtown (Millenium Hilton) or Midtown East/West 4* hotels. I'vebeen referred from the moneysavingexpert forums for a "strategy" so any tips you have would be gratefully received.

Also thinking of getting hotels in Las Vegas: Palazzo or Wynn for 27/9 - 2/10.

Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site. :)

There is no way to ensure a particular hotel when bidding on PRICELINE. However, for these dates, HOTWIRE has a 4* in the Downtown area with fitness, business, restaurant, internet and pool for $249, which would be a match for what has been previously reported with the Millennium Hilton.

We would be happy to offer suggestions for PRICELINE, but if you are set on this particular property, the HOTWIRE listing would be a better route.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE link to start your purchase.

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply. It doesn't have to be millenium hotel. I think we just want to get a nice 4* hotel at a good deal. I had a quick look at the list and any of the downtown 4* hotels would do fine. Any of the midtown east hotels as well.

Hi - While waiting for your response I've tried this, with trepidation, without success.

I did the downtown-soho-financial district, with rebid (Chelsea, long island, madisson square garden, upper east side) - up to $205. Any thoughts?

First time priceline user here so sorry if I need a lil bit more hand-holding... I used the affiliate links to place bids btw.

Keep in mind that if you are successful in the Downtown zone there are other 4* hotels there besides the Millenium Hilton which you could receive, so your not bidding on that particular hotel.

Have you tried bidding for the MTE or MTW zones in any of your previous bids?

Also, are you familiar with NYC, as Downtown-Soho is usually not the first choice of the average visitor.

Hi - thanks for your reply.

No, I'm not that familar with NYC (it'll be my first time there).

Yes, I am ok with any other hotels so long as they're not grubby and the location is good. I'm not so sure why I chose downtown-soho but I think its cos I like any of the reported 4* hotels in that area. 4* hotels in MTE also sound good as does MTE (with the exception of Sheraton though, friend told me its kinda old).

Ideally would not like to exceed $225 per night.

As noted above, Downtown isn't really the most central place for the typical visitor.

Most users looking for 4* hotels choose the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and (sometimes) ESB zones... all of which should work out fine for 'general exploring'. I'd look at those zones, see if there are any 'known' hotels that you'd prefer to avoid (enough in that you wouldn't want to bid that zone) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Also, is $225 your maximum bid price or your 'all-in' price? (including taxes and fees)

Thanks thereuare.

I had a look at the reported 4* hotels and all the 4* hotels in MTE, MTW, CPS TS sound good. I only singled out Sheraton cos a friend mentioned it; would you suggest avoiding any of the hotels?

$225 is the exclusive of taxes price.

The Sheraton New York reviews have been getting better (although i'll admit they're less than stellar) so whether choose to not bid this zone to avoid this hotel really depends upon what you expect from a stay... is it just a rooom to sleep in at the end of the day, do you return to your room to spend time lounging/relaxing during the day or mostly leave in the morning and return at nite, etc?

Also, $225 may be a little tough for these dates, we can certainly give it a try, but it appears that you may save some money by SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, as the first nite of your stay appears to be more expensive than the weekend nites... but this would involve having to likely change hotels during the course of your stay; let us know if this is an option.

I think we'll be using the rooms mostly just to stay - doubt we'll be using the facilities of the hotel. Having said that, we like returning to something nice.

Splitting is not an option as I'm already splitting this 3 nights with 2 other nights (22/9-24/9 - decided to stay outside manhattan cos the rates were well and truly insane for those dates). Have folks here been winning Sheratons with MTE zones lately? If so, lets leave that out.

Where are you staying for those nites? If a PRICELINE or HOTWIRE purchase please share the results with the board in a NEW TOPIC.

The Sheraton is in the MTW zone... the MTE is acceptable, correct?

We're staying at Holiday Inn Express - bought it direct as I hadn't read all about priceline and your forum when I booked. Could've saved more if I did...

Yes, Its MTW to leave out, MTE hotels are acceptable.

Hi - thanks for the advice. I was going at it for the last 2 hours and I couldn't get any interest even when I increased my bid to $335! I tried all the permutations between MTE, CPS, TS and even ESB. I then decided to include downtown-soho again but dropped the price to $225 and I got it! I guess it was a good first attempt but thanks very much to all for your help...

I used your PRICELINE link!
