bluemoose Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Hi,I'm hoping to get 2 3-star rooms (same hotel) during a holiday season 10 Oct - 13 Oct at less than $100 per room, near time square area. Would you have any advise on how i should bid for these rooms on priceline? Or is it totally not possible?thanks!
AaronJB Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)Is $100 your max budget? Unfortunately, I don't think $100 is going to be realistic for a 3* in NYC for these dates. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links when you are ready to start your purchase.
bluemoose Posted September 14, 2009 Author Report Posted September 14, 2009 Thanks for your inputs! How about rooms in Queens? Would it be possible to bid for less than $100? My worry is that it may be difficult to get 2 rooms in one go, or that the hotel would be very far away from manhattan. Would anyone be able to advise on this? Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can try Queens, but as you point out the distance to the subway would be unknown, and i think that woudl be a bigger issue than the fact that you're looking for two rooms.Have you considered Jersey City (NJ)? There are some great 4* hotels on the waterfront, allow easy access to Manhattan via PATH train, and i think available for just over your budget at about $120 or so.Thoughts? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bluemoose Posted September 14, 2009 Author Report Posted September 14, 2009 How about if I specify long island city? What is the bidding strategy that you recommend for two 3-star rooms at long island city?I have not really considered NJ, cause the hotels there are mainly the big ones and cost a lot! But you mean 4-star at $120 is possible? Will look into it too then. thanks!
thereuare Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 But you mean 4-star at $120 is possible? Will look into it too then. thanks!Yes, basically i think you have a chance at the known 4* hotels in the Jersey City area... Westin, Hyatt on the Hudson, and to a lesster extend W Hoboken. Any of which would work out very well for easy access to Manhattan.I'm not a fan of LIC (or many of Queens zones) as most of the area is just not very 'clean feeling'... grafitti on the brick walls of buildings, somewhat desolate streets at nite, etc.Let us know how you'd like to priceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bluemoose Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 I tried bidding for NJ 3* (there were only 2 options, either 2* or 3*) for those dates, offered $110 but couldn't get it.How would you advise that I try again? Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Which zone in NJ did you select? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bluemoose Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 Jersey city......I was aiming for Hyatt at Hudson actually....wondering if i could get so lucky......
thereuare Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 You won't necessary get "luckly" if you don't bid the proper star rating for the hotel you're hoping for.Jersey City offers 4*, 3.5*, 3*, 2.5*, 2*, and 1* bidding... if you go to PRICELINE now and select Jersey City as the zone, are you able to see that all of the star ratings listed above are selectable? If not, exactly where are you seeing the information that there are only 3* and 2* hotels offered in this area? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bluemoose Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 I've finally understood.....thanks for your patience....I'll start my bidding using your link tomorrow....i know how to overcome the address issue already. So if my aim is hyatt at hudson, i'll attempt to start bidding at $100, Jersey city zone, 4* hotel, is that correct?
thereuare Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Well, perhaps $100 shouldn't be your starting bid... what is your maximum bid for this stay and we'll take a closer look at your dates to suggest a strategy to follow.Thaks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links. bluemoose Posted September 16, 2009 Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 i would like to spend not more than usd130.....wonder if it's realistic for a 4*......
thereuare Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 When bidding 4* in Jersey City you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Jersey City...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Jersey City and re-bid zone6...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $123, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $130Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. bluemoose Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 i've been bidding today, no luck :)Bidded up to 6 re-bid zone (since only jersey city has 4*), max $105, but all rejected.......Got to wait till 24hr pass b4 trying again.....wish me luck!
thereuare Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 If you follow the strategy above you should be able to bid all of the above in one bidding cycle.Ask questions if you're not sure why. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck. bluemoose Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 Tried today, still didn't manage to get anything. sad.If i were to lower by requirement to 3*, would it be possible to get 2 rooms in manhattan (time sq, midtown west, madison sq) for $120? Or should i stick to 4* at jersey city?
thereuare Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 I doubt $120 would be enough for a 3* hotel lin NYC for these dates. You could try... but i'd be very surprised if you were successful (NOTE: i've been surprised before :) )Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bluemoose Posted September 20, 2009 Author Report Posted September 20, 2009 still no luck so far....Just wondering, would it be any different if i bid with 3.5*, jersey city? But i'll only be able to rebid 2 times with Elizabelt and West Orange.Btw, does the median hotel price make any different for bidding? Does it mean that when I see that the median hotel price is lower, there's a higher chance of winning the bid at a lower price?thanks!
thereuare Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 How high would you be willing to bid for a 3.5* in Jersey City?I'm a firm believer in "if PRICELINE offers hotels in the zone you should assume they actually have contracts with hotels in the zone at that star level"; however, i know this area farily well and i can't think of any hotels that would be rated 3.5* by PRICELINE... so this may be just like bidding 4* again, which you have already been rejected for up to $105 (and unfortunately i suspect that while you may have been successful if you had bid up to $130 for a 4* in Jersey City a few days ago, that offer may no longer be avaiable, based upon the HOTWIRE offerings i'm currently seeing)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bluemoose Posted September 21, 2009 Author Report Posted September 21, 2009 I did bid up to $135 for the past few days, but couldn't get any deal.Never mind then, will keep trying. thanks.
bluemoose Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 Hi,I'm been bidding everyday, but couldn't get jersey city 4*.Am thinking of changing to Long island city. Don't mind getting comfort inn, la quinta etc (i suppose this would be 2 or 2.5*?) as long as it's cheap. For these hotels, would set a budget of $120.Would you be able to advise a bidding strategy? Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 What star rating do you want try for first in Long Island City? (2.5*? 2*... why not 3*?)Also, are you 'ok' with using Manhattan zones to re-bid? While the chances are low of landing a hotel in Manhattan, you never know with the lower rated hotels which we don't see bid/won very often, and are at least a possibility if you include them in your bidding. So if you select 2.5* or 2*, are you ok if you win a hotel in Manhattan at that star level? If so, are there any Manhattan areas you would not be willing to accept a hotel at the star rating you selected? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bluemoose Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 Hi,I don't really mind certain areas in manhattan (e.g. midtown east/west, time sq, madison sq, empire state), but it is unlikely to get a room for <$110 in those areas right? But I guess that's the whole point, so as to allow more re-bidding.I've tried one round of bidding just now, started LIC for $75, then re-bid 5 times with addition of areas in manhattan for up to $100. But not successful yet.Did i do it correctly? Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Yes, but you probably could have gotten more bidding attempts by using the 'permuation' method of re-bidding.Do you recall which Manhattan zones you selected? Which Manhattan zones are you willing to accept? (yes, unlikely you would win a hotel in manhattan, but as there are hotels at the star rating you're bidding, they are 'live' zones, and i wouldn't bid them if you weren't willing to accept a hotel in the zone)Let us know the above, and confirm that your maximum bid is still $120 for a 3* hotel in LIC, and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
