Fred Hose Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I need help in booking a double room in a good 3* or a 4* in Venice near St Mark Plaza for price about $150-$200 for October 21 and 22 (2 nights).Fred
Romelle Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Fred. There is only one bidding area in Venice for the entire island, so you have to be prepared to accept a hotel anywhere within that area when you bid via Priceline. On the other hand, that area just isn't that large and all of Venice is so interesting that it may not be a problem? Do take a look at the Priceline map first though. If you really need location, Hotwire may be a better choice. It might be a good idea to do a Quick Search (top center on this page) on Venice and see what other bidders have reported. Star ratings in Europe seem a little different than those in the US. A 4* there is more like a nicer 3* here. A European 3* will get a little more basic. I'll let the experts here suggest a bidding strategy, but you might want to tell them first whether price or star level is more important to you. If you prefer the 4*, the approach is to first bid that all the way to your max - maybe $10 increments. If price is more important, each day you would try first for the 4* but then also add in the 3* on your way up. You may want to start a little lower at first, mostly to prove to yourself you haven't missed a deal. It is very frustrating to have success on your first bid, since you then know you probably could have gotten it for less. You might also mention whether you are an experienced PRICELINE bidder or not so the bidding advice can be tailored a bit more appropriately.RomelleAnd please use the links to either PRICELINE or HOTWIRE here (top of page).
Fred Hose Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 Thanks for your reply. I have used PRICELINE few times. As we will be in venice basically a full day. Arriving on Oct. 21st late evening and leaving on Oct. 23 morning. Therefore want to stay near the cenetral place. As I have still lot of time I will wait for some suggestions. Fred
Romelle Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Are you OK with a hotel anywhere within the PRICELINE shaded map of Venice? Also, is lower price more important, or would you rather try the 4* up to the top of your budget first, before trying for the 3*s?Romelle
Romelle Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Have you started bidding yet?And if so, any results?Romelle
