dlo Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I was encouraged by the posts for September wins at the Westin in the $60's/night, so I booked my flights first... and now I can't seem to win. Doh.I've tried $60 moving up to $105 for 4* Seattle (Downtown-Pike Place) for 9/15-9/20. And then, thinking that maybe the weekend was the problem, I tried the same price range for just the weekdays (9/15-9/18), thinking we could do something outside Seattle for the weekend. No luck. The only thought I have left to try is the opposite: try for the weekend, and do something outside downtown during the week.$105 is the top of my comfort range, as 5 nights with fees comes to $614.30 (!). I had been hoping it would be more like $80/night, but I can live with $105.The 4* thing is not the most important criteria; I'd like an upscale hotel, but the most important thing is walkability--I wasn't going to rent a car for the downtown days, and I'll be traveling with a baby--so would love to be able to pop out to Pike's etc, pop back to the hotel for a baby nap, and repeat as needed without thinking about shuttles and such.Any other suggestions? [apologies in advance for my noobiness]
thereuare Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! These are currently some tough nites in Seattle :)How many times are you willing to change hotels? Given your rejection at a 4* up to your limit (and for split dates too) is lowering your star rating an option? I assume Pike Place is the only zone you're interested in? (for the Downtown portion, since you meantioned walkability)What appears to be the Warwick seems to be available on HOTWIRE for the first 4 nites of your stay at $112/nite, just over your current limit of $112, if that would work for your plans? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Le tus know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. dlo Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 Thank you so much for your help. You run an impressive board--kudos.I did end up going with the Warwick, but for just a little more I was able to book directly with them using a AAA rate ($123/night)--for the difference I just wasn't sure it was worth taking a risk not knowing where I'd end up. I ended up just planning 3 nights there, though. It's interesting to me how without this forum I'd be much less likely to venture onto PRICELINE--all this great information makes it a lot less scary. Thanks again for the public service.
thereuare Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Although you didn't end up using PRICELINE or HOTWIRE for this purchase, glad to hear you found the board useful and found something that would work well for your needs. Thanks for 'closing' this thread with what you decided to do for this trip, and we'll see you again when you're planning your next hotel stay. pmuppet Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Mark it down as a good learning experience with little lost. Next time, locate the flights you plan to book, then before you book them, use PRICELINE to see if you can get a room. Then go back and book the flight once you have successfully secured a room.
